I know where this theater is. Is at the intersection of Avenida Roosevelt and Avenida De Diego. It’s right next to a Texaco station. In the mid-80’s, it was used for Charytin Goyco’s productions for PR local TV station WAPA-TV. It was there were a popular children’s TV program was made titled “Que Angelitos!” with Charytin’s son Shalim. A game show was also broadcast live there as I saw hundreds of people lining up to get in. Sometime in the late 80’s, Charytin moved to Miami with her family and her productions were shut down. The theater went into obscurity since.

The site is now named “Estudio Luis Vigoreaux”, named after the famous TV show host/producer/writer/actor who worked a WAPA-TV until his murder in January 1983. The number of seats were gretly reduced and a lot of high-tech production equipment was installed. Inaugurated in 2006.

I remember in the 80’s and towards the mid-90’s being owned by Wometco/Cinevista. I saw “Cobra”, “The Karate Kid Part II”, “Short Circuit 2”, and “The Untouchables” there in the 1980’s. In the 1990’s, I saw “Nine Months” which came out in summer ‘95. When I came back to PR to visit by around 1998-99, it became Caribbean Cinemas.

When you pass by Santa Rosa Shopping Center, you’ll see it sandwiched between two blocks. I haven’t been in the area in years. It has(d) a Baskin Robbins downstairs and I believe a Subway also.

BONUS!!! Here are pictures of the Cinema 150 as it looks today. These were taken by a real estate agent who is looking for tenants to occupy more of the shopping center’s empty spaces. The theater’s classic facade is now eclipsed by a giant billboard. Enjoy:

From what I’ve noticed, the nearby Plaza Carolina theaters is closed. Caribbean Cinemas took over every theater on the island and bought out rival CineVista theaters. The only theater active in the Carolina area is Los Colobos. With no theaters in the Laguna Gardens area or nearby Plaza Carolina, this would be a great chance for someone to revive the Cinema 150. The location is still perfect with the airport nearby. Any motions from anyone trying to revive it? This would be the perfect time to do it.

The theater closed around 1997 or 1998 because there were building the nearby Plaza Del Sol theaters. Attendance had diminished throughout the 1990’s because it was a bit of a bad area, the theater was near a bad housing project (forgot the name) and it drove people to the Rio Hondo theaters instead. The site is now a two-story Walgreens pharmacy.
