I’ve only lived in Schenectady for a year and a half and I adore Proctor’s. The expansion/renovation is ongoing, but I saw the touring company of The Phantom of the Opera in February and it felt like Broadway.

I hope they continue to show films as well. I really enjoy going to such a beautiful place to see a film, even if it is a second run.

We always loved calling for showtimes at this theater, because the owner recorded them himself (don’t know if that’s still the case) and would add editorial comments occasionally. It used to be the PJ Twins. I remember how cool I thought it was that there were theaters upstairs! Hey, it was a novel idea to a kid in the early eighties!

I’ve probably seen more movies at this theater than any other- mostly because my parents live closest to it!

I saw The Little Mermaid, Labyrinth and a few others at this theater. It’s the place we went after the Brookhaven theater in Port Jeff closed.

It was one of the first multiplexes I remember. Then UA moved in and built the Brookhaven and Coram Multiplexes.

I remember it as the Pine Cinemas as well, the shopping center was on the corner of Pine and 112, right?

I performed in two plays at the Glove in 2002. At that time, we were trying our best to use the plays to raise money to restore the theater. I have since moved further away and had a kid, so I haven’t been back much. But the current management (to my knowledge) would love the Glove to be a live theater venue (for professional touring shows as well as local amateur productions) that also shows second-run and classic films. Their model, I believe, is Proctor’s in Schenectady.

As for the balcony, when I was there, it was too dangerous to allow patrons to sit there, but functioned well for lighting purposes for the live shows.

I think it may be the same “mall” as GoodSkates, or maybe the strip mall closer to Port Jefferson on 347 that had the Jeffrey’s department store.

I loved this theater as a kid- I saw the Raggedy Ann and Andy Movie there, and whined because i wasn’t allowed to see the Breakfast Club when my big brother went. I think I saw War Games there, too.

The Brookhaven is on this site. I think it’s the one that was “uptown” Port Jeff, (now a Blockbuster) nearer to the train station. The old theater closer to the ferry is now Theater Three.

If this is the theater on Route 112 that’s now the site of a Blockbuster, I remember lying about my age to go see Poltergeist there with my cousins!

It had a balcony, didn’t it? I think they closed the balcony by the time I was going there (in the 80’s.)

There’s some discussion on this theater under the Fox theater entry in East Setauket.
