I was an extra when they shot Dead Poets Society there in the fall of 1988…Beautiful theatre…glad they have kept it up! Now if only the REST of main street in Middletown got the same attention- it has such GREAT potential.
I love it! Great picture…I bet my mom went there around this time (she was around 10 then)…it is a real shame that a group didnt take an interest and try to refurbish the theatre…
It was a pretty cool nightclub when it was opened. HUGE space with many rooms and a two level dance floor area. Shame that the college bought it out and opted to bulldoze it down.
Not too sad that it closed. It was really GROSS on the inside (how many health codes do you think were violated by having caged birds and reptiles within a few feet of where you served food?) and the indie film niche is more than filled by the fantastic Terrace Theatre just up the street.
I saw a “Friday the 13th” marathon there and I think that was right before it closed for good. You can still totally see where the big screen used to be.
It is really nice and the new owner has really improved it! My only complaint is that it has a steel roof and when it rains (and when it rains in Charleston it is bound to be heavy) you can hear it hitting the roof and it can be a bit distracting sometimes. They really should go back to serving food like they did when they first opened. I STILL miss the Roxy theatre on East Bay…how cool it was to see an art film right downtown..still surprised that it did not make it….

Pretty cool theatre…good addition to downtown Wilmington, which needs even more excitement…it is a graveyard there after 5pm…
Thanks for the info…It really stinks that it was torn down!
when are they coming to charleston sc? very exciting. I visited Asheville for New Years and saw a movie there. It would do very well in Charleston
I saw a screening of the 1982 movie “THE THING” last nite and the theatre was PACKED! So glad!
