One of two, this one being stage left.

Per theatreofvarieties comment on Cinema Treasures' page for this cinema dated 25th September 2017:

“the extract ducts are two decorative brass ones under the projection overhang in the back wall (only decorative part of the 60’s auditorium to survive albeit now sprayed black) in addition to about 300 small grilles under the seating at every level.”

 •
Cineworld, The Empire, Leicester Square - LED Modules on Rear Wall of IMAX Auditorium.

These modules are concealed within a black extrusion and illuminate down behind all rows of the IMAX auditorum, in spaced groups each of red, green and blue sections.

These appear to be rigid modules, and it looks on-board current regulation is incorporated, so they are not to be confused with “bargain-basement” LED “tape.”

 •
Cineworld, Empire Theatre, Leicester Square - IMAX Auditorium - View into Right Sidewall Cove.

A view of one of the LED bars concealed in the right sidewall. 151 Serenity Prolix LED bars containing red, green and blue OSRAM OSLON LEDs were installed in the 2014 IMAX conversion of the old Empire 1; the separate LEDs can clearly be seen in the photo.

 •
Looking up at the underside of the IMAX risers. Without the ceiling, sound from the IMAX screen is quite audible in the foyer.

 •
View into former screen 4, which doesn’t look like it will be reopening any time soon.

 •
plaster ceiling removed showing the curved ceiling ribs and the catwalk above that was/is used to access above the ceiling. These curved ribs were cut out and extended so that they could be moved up and reused as part of the new ceiling.

 •
Steelwork above the plaster ceiling

 •
section showing the original colour of the auditorium side wall. What might not be apparent is that the original paintwork is very much ‘open’ compared to the grey paint applied by UCI/CIC. The paint applied by UCI/CIC definitely did change the acoustics for the worse.

 •
scaffold up, in mid strip for Imax conversion

 •
rare photo of flock wallpaper from the 1927 auditorium. this is the only piece of wallpaper from the original 1927 auditorium that has survived. it is now hidden behind the new side walls.
