Started my working life at these theatres back on July 14, 1978. They hired me to work “The Swarm” at Cinemas 3 & 4. Two weeks later, they transferred me downstairs to Cinema 1 for “Hooper”. Actually worked at Cinemas 5-8 before hanging up the ‘ticket taker" job for good. Lots of fond memories of these Dayton Mall movie theatres.
Worked a midnight showing of “Night of the Living Dead” on a Friday night back in 1980. Possibly one of the strangest and most dangerous crowds I’ve ever experienced in a movie theatre.
“Savage Harvest” opened back in the summer of 1981. No one showed up for the Monday night 7:30 showing, so I closed down the box office and concession stand and sent those workers home. Drank beer in the office while waiting for the 9:30 crowd. Needless to say, this was the end of my Chakeres employment. Until 1986, that is.
Hello JeffR,
We certainly do know each other.
I’m the one who Mr. Howard referred to as “that kid from Kettering”. I still have the “Magic” one-sheet and Lobby Card you gave me, but he thinks (thought) I ‘appropriated’.
I hope all is well with you.

John Harvey had this projection system set-up in his home. Watched him project a print of “Blazing Saddles' there in 1979. Lowell Thomas, an early investor in the process, was present.
Hello JeffR. It was 45 years ago tonight that you and John Harvey, his friend, and myself previewed “Alien” at the Dayton Mall Cinema 1.
I managed this drive-in for a couple months in 1981. 40 years ago today, as a matter of fact. Opened with “Scanners”.

I worked at the Captain Kidd during the summer of 1979. Still one of the most fun summers of my life.
