Stadium seating was retro-fitted here … the theatres you mentioned were designed with stadium seating. Your comparison is equivalent to putting wings on your car, and complaining that it doesn’t fly as well as a plane.

The theatre closed again on “Black Friday” because a sprinkler pipe burst upstairs, which flooded much of the building. The hope is that the building can re-open within a week, but that may not be possible.

Hey guys … some general comments:
(1) Clearview is NOT building an IMAX theatre/screen, although undertaking many capital-improvement projects such as the addition to Cinema 10 and the new sound @ Cinema 12 (no plans to change the seats as of now)
(2) The Rockaway theatre will go in despite the merger of AMC & Loews, and will be located right next to route 80
(3) Cinema 10’s 2 new screens should be ready to open for Christmas, and will NOT have stadium seating (more expensive than a sloped floor)
(4) John is right – Cinema 10 is so successful because of its great location. Look for Cinema 10 & 12 to take a BIG hit though from the Rockaway opening next summer.
(5) The new marquee in front of C10 is going to look HOT!

From what I hear, the opening will be delayed because of both weather and normal construction delays. The total project completion will most likely be delayed as well.

November was the original target, but construction material delays will hold it up until December or later. The theatre is scheduled to be closed Sept 26 – Oct 27 so the bathrooms can be renovated. I can’t wait either!

Yes, the Mansfield theatre opened with 15 screens in December 1998. During the renovations of 2001, auditoriums 5 & 6 were combined and the theatre only has 14 screens now.

If you look closely in the lobby, you will see the Clearview logo that was in use for only about 6 months (located on the electronic boards). When Cablevision combined the Clearview and Wiz business units, they designed a logo that incorporated a check mark into both logo designs. When The Wiz went belly-up, Clearview was absorbed back into Cablevision and the logo was abandoned. Mansfield was renovated during that period, and thus the logo lives on.

Yes, it is out of the ordinary for Clearview to build its own theatres. The rights to build on the site in Mansfield was acquired when Clearview bought the Nelson-Furman theatre chain. Today, Clearview’s 3 most profitable sites come from that brilliant purchase (Parsippany, Succasunna, & Mansfield).

The Succasunna expansion broke ground in June 2005, and has a target completion date of December 2005. Clearview is adding 2 additional auditoriums with digital sound, adding a party/convention room, renovating and expanding the restrooms, rotating the box office 90 degrees so that it is indoors, expanding the lobby, adding a new marquee, and is eliminating the upstairs auditoriums. Once completed, this beloved local theatre will be even better (and should be able to compete with the proposed new Loews theatre going into the Rockaway Mall).

Cablevision owns both Clearview Cinemas and IFC, so The Baxter will continue to run at the Ziegfeld for a while.
