Chuck and Mike. This article is about the former “Merrimon Twin” which existed at this same location years ago. That theater closed down. A different theater/business opened later under the name “Two Moons Brew and View” in 1998. The current Asheville Pizza & Brewing Co is the third theater to open there. Mike…Yes, that’s the area I’m describing. There are actually 6 shops in the small building right against the road. (It has 3 more on the 2nd floor). The Bellsouth “CO” building is right behind those shops. The Biltmore Twin was immediately north of the Bellsouth (now AT&T building).
The building was indeed torn down, or at least partially so. There is a AT&T (formerly Bell South) “CO” or central office near or on its former location.
If you look at the google map below, you will see a relatively square building at the south side of the parking lot. You will notice a patch of slightly darker asphalt in its parking lot on the north side of that building. If memory serves me correctly, that was the back end (screen end) of the Biltmore Twin. The front/entrance end extended north through the grassy area and into what is now the larger parking area for the shopping center. As I recall, when you turned off of Hendersonville Road, you could drive your car right up along the front curb of the theater and let your passengers out.
The entrance/concession area of the theater was quite small. If you’ve seen the “Ju Ju Bees” episode of Seinfeld, it looked a lot like that!
The sign above the entrance was white background with red-painted metal-framed letters that used incandescent bulbs to fill in the letters and the frame around the sign. I don’t remember when it closed but I’m thinking it was around 1989-1991.
Regarding Beaucatcher, it may not be around much longer. It does not appear to be struggling, but it’s certainly not drawing the huge crowds it once did. Movie-goers are starting to expect more from a theater. The stadium seating at Regal Biltmore Grande Stadium 15 is a huge draw, even though it is a little ways out from the main part of town.
I like Beaucatcher because it’s not usually crowded and the staff are very friendly. Some week-nights me and my family are only one of 3-4 groups in a theater.
“Hollywood 14” is no longer a Regal cinema and has not been for at least 2-3 years since the Regal Biltmore Grande Stadium 15 opened in Biltmore Park south of town. In Fact it is now called “The Carolina” and appears to be an independent restaurant/theater combo.
This theater was in a shopping center that is still in existence. There is an Ingles grocery store and an “Asiana Grand Buffet” across the parking lot. As you drive into the shopping center and look to the left, you can see where the theater was due to the raised roof in the back to accommodate the screens and projection booths. For some reason I think I remember seeing either “The Empire Strikes Back” or “Return of the Jedi” there.
Honestly, I don’t really care. Name it as you wish.

I remember watching Rocky III here. The line to get in went down the side of the building all the way past the back of the theater.
