Someone mentioned seeing the double feature of Outlaw Josey Wales and Chino at the Cornell in 1976. I remember seeing the same double feature at the Wiltern in 1976. What great memories.Here’s a good link about the Cornell and other Burbank theatres of days gone by.
The Adams West switched from showing movies to live shows in late 1963. Around spring of 1964, it was renamed the Kabuki and started showing Japanese movies until 1973. It went back to showing American movies for a short time and closed for good.I grew up in that neighborhood.I was last in the theatre to see a couple of exploitation movies, before it closed. The theatre was in desperate need of remodeling.
It is the State theater,ken mc. That’s from around December of 1957, when the double feature of Reform School Girl and Rock Around the World played there.
I have some fond memories of the Leimert Theatre.I grew up near there and I remember alternating between there and the Baldwin-depending on what was playing. I remember seeing For A Few Dollars More and I Crossed The Colored Line on a double featureI remember when they showed Cool Hand Luke and Wait Until Dark,together. You were lucky if you found a seat. Bonnie And Clyde drew a large crowd as well. The second feature was Point Blank,which would become a cult film. The last movie I saw there was Grand Prix and Sol Madrid with Anzio being the next attraction in 1968. Unfotunately,that double feature was the last movies screened there.The theatre abruptly closed.

Just for that week,Ken. That double bill played at other mainstream theatres.It continued to show regular movies till it closed.
I used to go to the New View theatre during the early 70’s. They still showed mainstream movies.
I don’t understand why it’s listed as the Vision Theatre. For the 40 or so years it was a movie theatre it was called the Leimert.
Rave’s website now says it will open June 29th.

I saw the double feature of Fantastic Voyage and Do Not Disturb there in 1966.Nice theatre.
