Hi
It is being demolished now. Started last week after someone set fire to it.
Someone needs to get some pictures of inside if possible. I would but am working.

Hi Neo
I don’t know, when i was on site i noticed a lot of seats strewn around, but they were bingo seats not the original seats. I did look around for any signs of original seating as i would have liked a couple for my home cinema.

I quite agree, i am constantly finding out about old cinemas and theatres that once stood and find it chilling that good buildings with heritage are and have been erased. The Uk is generally a place with a lot of heritage, but im afraid that we will lose it as so called progress comes along with demolition ball! Salford in particular had so many cinemas but hardly any stand now.

Hi Cath
I have emailed you with my details, i can copy it for you as i work for an audio visual hire company. www.mcl-manchester.com
As always in these matters money always clouds the judgements of heritage matters.

Hi Cath
I arrived on the scene a bit late, i wish i knew earlier what you were all up to, i would have supported you all as much as i could. I only learnt of the Ambassador whilst talking to an elderly gentleman at work. He knew i was active at the Plaza Stockport and mentioned the closed Ambassador. Having visited the site i was hooked and having found it on Cinema treasures the bug took over. Im 33yrs old but feel like i was around during the 30’s. Do you still have a copy of your video? I would love to see it. You really deserve credit for all your efforts! Regards Andy

It seems to me that they are not thinking ahead on these matters, my son goes to a multiplex in the next town and he often notes how he is one of six or seven sat in a deserted auditorium. This multiplex has put the original cinemas out of business. It has 13 screens which are showing all the latest releases, but not all the releases will be a hit and the ones that are can not be given the justice that a 1200 seater auditorium can give them. So in a few years time theres a good chance that these uglier buildings will face the same fate of the grand cinemas.
As a volunteer at the Stockport PLaza( www.stockportplaza.co.uk )
i can try and help put back some heritage and pride back into cinema and theatre. Cinema treasures is a fantastic way of finding like minded people with a passion for keeping cinema and theatre original!
