Looking down from the Dress Circle to the Mezzanine. Such stairwells from public buildings are so called after the entrances/exits to the audience seating of Roman theatres and arenas. Observation of a crowd emerging from such a stairwell after a show will lead to an understanding of the modern use of the term ‘vomit’.
