Looking down to the Mezzanine from the Dress Circle Foyer.
The simple, elegant style given to his theatres by Cedric Ballantyne is evident here. Ornamentation was rich, but restrained, unlike the gross over-decoration which in my opinion ruined many picture palaces (particularly in the United States) and even the relative coarseness of much of the ornamentation in such a fine theatre as the Sydney State. Having grown up with the Adelaide Regent, the epitome of Ballantyne at his finest, I always felt at home in the South Yarra Regent and the Victory.
