The address is correct, it just doesn’t exist anymore. Plus back in 68' the area was basically farmland getting ready to be developed. So when they describe it as being 2 blocks north of north ave., they mean the the next intersection north from north avenue…Which anyone who lives in a farming community knows 2 blocks could be a mile or two between public attractions, such as gas stations, restaurants or in this case a drive-In .
Also, There is no home improvement store built on this site. The site where the drive-in use to be is still undeveloped land & is surrounded by houses. It’s main use now is for flood protection. The site has 4 little streams (Some larger then others), that when heavy rain comes down the water is drained into these streams, letting the field take the brunt of the water. Ultimately making it quite a marshy environment. Ironically this was one of the reasons why the drive-in closed…But not the main reason.
There is no longer any evidence of this drive-in ever existing. The area has been completely built up with strip malls & big box anchor stores. Sad. Driving through this place today; you’d never think a drive-in once stood there.
This cinema opened in late 1997. I remember seeing the grand opening ad in the Chicago tribune. I saw ‘'Scream 2’‘ & ’‘Home Alone 3’‘ here on Friday, December 12, 1997. I was 20 years old at the time.

Isn’t this the movie theater they shot some of the scenes to bachelor party in? Where tom hanks and his group of misfit party goers search for guy who stole his woman. The above picture looks like the movie theater in the film…Only in the film they list this place as having 36 screens. I figure this was an inside joke based apon the record breaking number of screens this theater had at the time…Can someone tell me if I am right?…
My main point was renovation, There is nothing wrong with keeping the glory of the old art deco look, Just keep up with the times.
A lot of the old remaining movie theaters in america have been renovated to keep up with todays standerds. See the lake theater in oak park, Illinois or the york theater in elmhurst, Illinois…Or the chicago theater for that matter…All 3 of these theaters are listed on cinema treasures.
This movie theater is pretty rundown. It is in badly need of renovation, Inside and out. I went in there and saw ‘'HANCOCK’‘ just to find that the flooring in this place is all wood. That got me thinking ’‘What if a fire broke out’‘ This place would go up like a tinder box not giving anybody a chance to even get out. VERY UNSAFE!!! Another thing about this theater, There is no ventilation. Very uncomfortable & stuffy. Just another breeding ground for airborn bacteria and viruses. But given a chance and a massive renovation, This theater could be a very nice place to be. Maybe it would be better as a preforming arts center or concert venue or a movie theater again. But it’s plain to see that this cinema is doomed. I am surprised that it’s been standing this long. In america this place would of met the wrecking ball decades ago.
