This is like the holy grail of York Theatre pictures. Aside from the scan of a photo of poor quality, this may be the only photo that exists.

There is only one photo I know that exists of this theatre. I will try and track down a good copy.

A storm blew the screen down thus ending it’s long run of pornogrpahic films

This opened in the teens or early 20’s as the Scenic Theatre

I’m trying to get CT to change the address. This is a York address not Thomasville which is unincorporated. May make it easier for people to look up.

It hasn’t been officially announced yet but this mall is coming down in February of 2013. Not sure what will happen to the theater yet.

it is pretty nice inside but i’m not sure why the front faces away from the shopping center, i always thought that was kind of dumb.

I know theater 1 is the biggest screen in the place. I think they get smaller as the numbers get higher. I just saw Brave with my daughter here last week in theater #12 and it was small.

Oddly enough the first movie I saw here was in 1988, Police Academy 5: Assignment Miami Beach.

Thanks for the info John. I wonder who owns the building? I might venture down some afternoon and see if I can get in.

This was York’s first big Multiplex. It opened in the early 90’s but had a very short shelf life, must of been poor management. It then was reopened and they tried showing some indie movies, well, this is York and that died too. It was demolished and is now an even bigger useless multiplex but this is where 99% of York goes to the movies now.

I only remember it being twinned. The Mall opened in 1968 so i’m guessing the theater opened then too. It actually wasn’t a bad theater for being in a mall. The last movie I saw here was in 1996, it probably closed soon after. The address should be 2801 E. Market St.

This was the Hippodrome prior to the Rialto. It opened as a Vaudeville theatre and converted to movies sometime in the the teens or early 20’s.

Nothing spectacular here, small screens and soulless. This is in a dead mall and business is way down since Franks opened across town. This theater opened in 1998 or 1999 i believe. It may be the only thing that keeps this mall open.

It was a UA theater as long as i remember. The last original run movie i saw here was American Pie in 1999, that same year or possibly in 2000 it became a cheap theater until it was demolished in 2005.
