I have always kicked myself for missing “This is Cinerama” at the Ziegfeld, even though to see it without curtains had to ruin the effect. Now I just read the above post that it actually moved to Syosset. Where was I in 1973????????????????

I always felt both Syosset theatres were the best theatres Long Island ever had. I have a question maybe you can answer. Was it possible to run the 70mm single strip Cinerma films in the D-150? Could you have used the D-150 lens?

That big curved billboard that looks like a screen, was it used for advertising Cinerama films?

On Rockaway Blvd Centurys had the Five Towns which really never found success until it went discount. I was suprised because it was a modern theatre in the mall. The other was the RKO Lawrence.

I’m shocked to read on this site that Star Wars played the Lawrence in 70mm. I never thought this was a top house.

It had a small free standing marquee on the road and a flat one on the front of the building.

UA used to book this on the same end of the run track with Northport, Smithtown and Lindenhurst. I think also that Brentwood was on that run at one time also.

How pathetic that a new mega-plex has torn screens already.

RobertR commented about UA The Movies at Sunrise Mall on Nov 23, 2004 at 1:52 pm

Yes UA had it on the same dollor track as Lindenhurst and Smithtown.

Yes, I think Farmingdale is far enough away for Massapequa to support its own theatre again. So who knows about the Jerry lewis twin, let’s get it posted.

I saw Gone With the Wind here the time they blew it up to 70mm.

If another company had operated this it would still be open. They were in a free booking zone and had no close competition. It might have been possible to make at least some of the screens into stadium theatres even though they were small.

Thanks for the info, so in a multiple box office house like the Music Hall would each box office would call each other constantly to compare tickets sold?
