Johnson’s Theatre(indoor and outdoor) opened on 23/6/1915. Johnson’s Theatre had 1500 seats(indoor), 1067 seats(outdoor), Name changed to Century on 16/4/1955 with “Caine Mutiny”. Destroyed by fire in 1964. Rebuilt as Silver City Cinema opening on 14/9/1967. Silver City Cinemas has 536 seats.
This might be the same drive-in seen briefly in an episode of the tv series “Chips”(season 5, episode 11 – Concours d'Elegance). You briefly see the Pacific Theatres logo on the back of a screen near the end of the episode, while the first of the two(drunk?) Guys after their cars crashs upside down, is being arrested by the character played by Bruce Jenner.
Tom Hanks used this theatre as a substitute for the Orpheun Theatre in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for his film “That thing you do”. Used in the music videos for November rain(Guns ‘N’ Roses) and You were meant for me(Jewel). Used for LA auditions in “So you think you can dance” and “American Idol”, and the early elimination rounds on “American Idol” too.
Opened on 15/11/2001 as Greater Union Hoyts Myer Centre Cinema(a shared arrangment begin Greater Union and Hoyts), Greater Union programmed 3 cinemas, and Hoyts programmed 5 cinemas. Taken over by Birch Carroll & Coyle in 2005 as Myer Centre. Taken over by Event Cinemas in(2010 or 2015?). Screen 1 – 173 seats, screen 2 – 123 seats, screen 3 – 118 seats, screen 4 – 118 seats, screen 5 – 118 seats, screen 6 – 123 seats, screen 7 – 294 seats, screen 8 – 462 seats.
