Is there another still-operating Paris Cinema (perhaps the one in NYC) who could use the sign?

Can you create a page here for the In-Town? It is before my time in Columbus.

The Capitol and Somerville are both converting to digital (while retaining the ability to project 35mm), but I don’t know what’s happening with the Lexington Venue and the other theatres you listed here.

Why did the federal government care what kind of entertainment the Astor was presenting?

The other film I’m pretty sure I saw in 70mm here is “Lawrence of Arabia”.

I saw “Gettysburg” here. Wasn’t that in 70mm?

When did they add “and Drafthouse” to their name?

Does this mean the theatre is closed and abandoned?

Even into its X-rated days, it was “E.M. Loew’s West End Cinema” — until it was one day renamed “West End Pussycat”.

Poor Little Rich Girl closed last year, and Grand closed two weeks ago. I don’t yet know what will replace them in this storefront.

I’m seeing this on February 21, so how did you post it on February 24? It seems to be missing from the News page.

Ron Newman commented about Theatre 1 & Space 57 on Feb 20, 2012 at 9:04 am

Today’s Boston Herald reports that the Stuart Street Playhouse is being extensively rebuilt and will be renamed “Theatre 1” when it reopens in April.

“The playhouse has been completely redesigned as a 225-seat theater for events ranging from movie screenings, acoustic music performances and short-run plays to corporate meetings.”

They expect it to hold corporate and sales meetings during the day, and to be an entertainment venue at night.

Cinema 57’s former second screen is being converted to a “blank canvas” room called Space 57 that can hold about 800 people for stand-up receptions or 300 for sit-down dinners.

The Radisson Hotel that contains both rooms is being renamed the Revere Hotel and is becoming a “boutique” hotel.

Where was the Walter Reade? I don’t remember any place with this name.

Ron Newman commented about Wollaston Theatre on Feb 1, 2012 at 9:36 pm

Seems reasonable; most of these places, once they are saved, need live performances to stay in business.

When I go to the website that is listed here (CinemaCity8.com) I get a “Directory listing is denied” error. The WHOIS information for that domain doesn’t say anything about Cover Your Assets II.

Sadly, the building turned out to be a total loss and was demolished last week. Nothing now remains of the former Teele Square Theatre.

Ron Newman commented about Berklee Performance Center on Nov 30, 2011 at 10:47 pm

The Globe has more detail on this: Berklee breaks ground on 16-story dorm, performance center

Only a single one-story building was demolished to make way for this project. The new building will contain a “400-seat student performance venue”. That’s a lot smaller than the existing Performance Center and I think it serves a different purpose.

This location is no longer listed at flexbaths.com . Is it still open as a gym or has it been converted to a different use now?

Is the address given here correct? The Stop & Shop which is replacing the cinema has the address 299 Chelmsford Street … which, being an odd number, would be across the street from 308.
