Starting THIS Friday the 6th.. Belle will be screening at The Lafayette Theatre. It is based on the true story of Elizabeth Belle. Who is the illegitimate mixed race daughter of admiral Sir John Lindsay.
The only REAL theatre in Rockland is the Historic Movie Palace built in 1924 The Lafayette in Suffern. All others in rockland are just screening rooms of different sizes with a screen and seats
There WILL be a special tribute to Jeff Barker. The long time organist at The Lafayette . Who sadly passed away Dec 30 2013. Before the screening of City Lights Saturday May 17th.

June 22nd Sunday will be another .25 cent admission to celebrate the 90th year in operation.. The 1971 Version of Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory will be shown.
No advanced sales. Get to the theatre EARLY to avoid disappointment! 300 people were turned away because of a FULL house on March 2nd.
I do not think they will close this theatre. They just converted to digital about 4 months ago. The Mamaroneck Playhouse. Was 35MM right up to the last day of operation. Bow Tie said it would have been too costly to upgrade and renovate the theatre. Not a very good company when they say. “Movie going like it, used to be, but only better”
This IS very sad news. This was a playhouse from the 1920’s. It was once a single screen. Then split into 4 screens. It however had a lot of elements left over from when it was a playhouse. This was evident mostly in the 2 upstairs theatres. Bricks walls and stone figurines still adorned the walls. The hallway between the 2 theatres and the bathrooms was a walkway with bricks on the ceiling and walls as you walked thru.
Plus each theater had 250 seats.. The two upstairs theatres were roomy and airy. One did not feel like you were in a little box
They ran 35MM right up to the last day on April 20th. Bow Tie had switched all other locations in Westchester from 35MM several months ago.
So I felt from the beginning of the year. They planned NOT to spend the $$$ to convert to digital. In addition to fixing up all 4 theatres with new sets screens sound systems. Plus other general repair on the older building.
They had floated the idea of making it a view and dine upscale theatre. It would have done well I think.As it was far enough away from Alamo Drafthouse.
A real shame and sad for the residents and downtown.
I talked to the owner and operator. he says no 16MM no 35MM. So it is digital. Do not know if he gets DCP from the studio’s. Or does a Blu Ray projection.
Lets see. It would be GREAT to see the Fair Oaks Drive in open again. It has been running since 1990. When Ron Merge the former owner and operator departed, after 23 successful seasons in 2013.. The Overlook Drive in in Poughkeepskie and The Hyde Park Drive in do very well. Having 4 different Drive In’s within 45 to 70 minutes from where I live is quite a treat.
Several people are looking to operate and RE-OPEN this GREAT Drive In Movie Theatre! The former owner had it for 23 years. Yes the cost if digital was one of the reasons he did not continue. It IS a very busy Drive In. As I have been going there since 1997.
I have been going to the Fair Oaks Drive In since 1997. The cost of going digital was too much for the former operator and owner. Plus after 23 years of running the DI, he was getting ready to move on. It was a very busy with many cars squeezing in on a nice spring summer night.
I hope that some other operator takes over and opens for the season in April or May of this year. The main screen at the Fair Oaks. Is the biggest in all of NYS
The Warwick Drive in Concerted to digital at a cost of $390,000.00 in Late Oct 2013. The Drive in IS scheduled to OPEN for the season on Friday March 21st. They will blow/plow away as much of the remaining snow as possible.
The 90th Anniversary Celebration at The Lafayette Theatre
went extremely well. I got online at 11:25am. 95 minutes before the doors were to open. By 12:30pm there were about 500 people lined up. The doors to the theatre opened at 12:40. By 1:50pm 250-300 people were turned away because of such a HUGE turnout. Wizard Of Oz looked GREAT in 3D in the TRUE Silver Screen. There will be 2 more events. One in the spring. One in the fall. During the 90th year. Admission will be $.25.Details to come.
