The Edens reminds me of Pride Cleaners, still in business on the South Side of Chicago View link

Is this cinema independently owned or is it part of a chain?

Has this place been demolished already? The status is shown as “Closed/Demolished” but I haven’t found anything about a demolition.

If it was converted to retail, then I assume the auditorium was gutted.

The retail establishment occupying the first floor of this building has closed.

I was here a couple of years ago when I was visiting friends in Pittsburgh.

I lived and worked in Pittsburgh from the early to mid-1990s and I believe I saw “Speed” here. Was there another multiplex close by?

I wonder if some of those old kung-fu movies are on DVD. I’ve always been curious about them.

I lived in the Pittsburgh area from 1990-1995. I used to date a woman from Clairton, PA. We’d come here on occasion. I remember seeing “Dead Again”, “Hand That Rocks the Cradle”, “Shawshank Redemption”, and the trash classics “Sliver” and “Basic Instinct” here.

Sucks that theatres built as recently as the 1990s are closing.

Paul Fortini commented about Streamwood Theater on Dec 27, 2010 at 12:41 pm

This would have to rank as one of Chicagoland’s shortest-lived multi-plexs. Among them are:

Rolling Meadows: 1993-2000
Streamwood: 1994-2004
Bricktown: 1989-2000
Rice Lake Square was open barely more than a decade too.

I believe Linens-n-Things totally ceased operations. If so, what is this building being used for now?

Paul Fortini commented about Lincoln Village 1-6 on Dec 27, 2010 at 12:37 pm

“Rice Lake Square (opened Dec 1989) is now a Linens-n-Things.”

Who knows what it is now that Linens-n-Things went out of business?

Paul Fortini commented about Garrick Theatre on Dec 20, 2010 at 3:07 pm

Some of the facade from the former Garrick Theatre was re-used on the Second City Building. However, not far away, at the intersection of Lincoln Ave & the former Ogden Avenue, some of the busts from the Garrick showed up at this View link building.

Ogden Ave was removed form this area in the late 1960s.

Anything happening with either former ICE theatre (62 & Western or the Lawndale)?

Amazing photos of the Luna. I lived not too far from there, but I’d never been to the Luna. My friends and I did go to the Will Rogers though (The Willy as we called it). I don’t believe I’d ever even seen the Luna.

I saw Richard Thompson here in concert recently. The facility was okay, but the acoustics were terrible. Previously I’d only been here for Brew-n-View.

Paul Fortini commented about Glenwood Theatre on Nov 22, 2010 at 9:35 am

The Bloomingdale Court (now Picture Show at Bloomingdale), the North Riverside, The Village North (now the New 400), and the Golf Glen (now Big Picture) have all made it out of Village Entertainment. Why can’t someone do something with this theatre? It’d probably be a great 2nd run house.

John,

I’ve been to the Icon once and I found it overwhelming and not in a good way.

Paul Fortini commented about Regal City North on Oct 26, 2010 at 10:01 am

What’s Regal like as an operator? I’ve never been to any of their cinemas. Kerasotes did great things with this and the Webster Place. Let’s hope Regal doesn’t run ‘em into the ground.

I haven’t been back to either location since the Regal takeover. My wife and I used to go to these all the time because of the 5 Buck Club Card.
