A “theatre” with no screen. I guess that’s something different. With 14 seats, how can they possibly afford the screenings of His Girl Friday, Monsieur Verdoux, Sunset Boulevard, Sherlock Holmes (2010 version), etc. Is the projection DCP or 35mm?
There is no restored print of Mad Mad World. They are running the same “general release” version that’s been around for years, the only addition is the police “radio calls” audio during the Intermission. They need to correct that listing.
I wonder where they got a DVD of that movie as it’s never officially been released in that format anywhere in the world. Also, it should have been 1.85 widescreen.
DCP is the industry term for Digital Cinema Package; ie the hard disk containing a 2K version (in our case) of the movie as sent by the studio. If we were running a Blu or DVD, we would say so.
Yes, prints are getting scarcer. I would prefer to run prints whenever possible, but if the studios make good digital versions of titles that do not have prints available, I’ll use them (like we did with Bye Bye Birdie, African Queen, etc.).
Just finished inspecting and setting up the 35mm print for THE PRIDE OF THE YANKEES tomorrow morning. Absolutely mint, no scratches or wear that I could detect. Looks like it’s been run no more than a handful of times. It will look spectacular on-screen.
Sadly, no. The studios are not transferring all of their titles at 4K for eventual use in rep. cinemas. Some of them are content to tell us to play a Blu-ray or DVD instead of a 35mm or DCP. Sure, the evergreen titles (Casablanca, Gone with the Wind, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, etc.) will get a nice transfer to DCP, but you’re not likely going to see “On Dangerous Ground” or “This Gun for Hire” as a DCP in the near future.

Ummm, we installed our digital projector at the Lafayette in March of 2010. The town financed the purchase of it back then.

All of those are available on standard DCP via the rep departments, so I would assume they are 2K versions.
Except for the fact that you can’t run new studio product on it.
The theatre’s status should be changed to “Closed” as it’s last day of operation was 11/25/2012.
