Guodone, I worked as a projectionist here from 1989 to 1994. I cant tell you how the theatre looked prior to splitting, but I can tell you when we split the GCC Woodbridge Cinema in 1977, we went from 1500 seats down to 2 theatres of 600 seats each, a loss of 300. So it can happen.
What Big Joe was referring to about A film or B film was its run in the theatres. I was a projectionist for years at first run twins in NJ. The one twin would always get what was considered the A film, Star Wars, Close Encounters etc. The other twin 5 miles away got what was considered B films, Smokey and the Bandit, Saturday Night Fever etc. It was what the film companies determined which films would be a bigger hit. And then the theatres decided what they wanted to play where.
AlAlverez, you are so right. Even TCM is going that way. Tonight they are showing Woodstock the Directors Cut. To be honest, it isnt bad, but I like the original better.

You think thats sad. The multiplex they opened in Newark NJ had 12 screens and only lasted 15 years. It was built on land that was their 3 screen drive in.
bigjoe59, I can tell you that as recent as Dec 2017 to March 2018, I ran “Phantom Thread” here in 70MM 5 shows a day. When the print went back, Focus was amazed that it looked to be in the same condition it was when it was shipped. Im not saying Im perfect, cause Im not. Its just how I was taught to handle film. Its too bad theatres got rid of professionals in the late 90s/early 2000s and put kids in the booth. Thats what really gave digital the boost it needed.
bigjoe59, although the roadshows were before my time, I started in 1976, My father who was a projectionist for 55 years had told me that sometimes prints would get worn but for the most part back then you had professional projectionists who cared for the prints. And i know from my own personal expieriance that I ran Star Wars for 32 weeks, sometimes 5 or 6 shows a day, or Jurassic Park for 9 months 4 to 5 shows a day and even Titanic for 7 months. Same print. No damage. No scratches. It all depended on who was running it and how clean the equipment and booth was.
hdtv267, Tenet was supposed to be in 70MM here and the Regal E Walk. I run the 70 at both theatres. We have not been notified when to show up to get things ready. Im getting the feeling it wont come out until Christmas. Just a vibe I get when I talk to my contacts.
I read on one of the many facebook groups that the board of directors for this theatre has approved a plan to rebuild the stagehouse and auditorium damage that occured.
sounds about right. I think a week or two later we got Heaven Can Wait. An Unmarried Woman was there since late winter. When we got movies at Menlo Park they stayed a looong time
Many people have commented how the walls around the stage house seem to be very thin in comparison to the side wall of the auditorium. Of course it could just be the way the photos were taken, but it seems those stagehouse walls, especially the outside one seem very thin.
I saw on facebook, maybe the group cinema tour, that the stage house area suffered major damage from severe storms today. Looked like the roof and back wall blew out.
It could play in 70MM, (cinema 15). Its one of the 3 theatres I run 70MM at. However, I have not heard from Warner Bros about this theatre, or the other 2 in NYC that I cover.
It was on this day in 1972 that this theatre opened. It was the second twin in middlesex county. My father was the opening day projectionist. Spent that entire summer seeing so many great movies. After the first month they started running double features in each theatre. Good times.
They need to do the same thing to the National Amusements Amboys Multiplex in New Jersey, where I worked as a projectionist for 21 years and closed in May 2005.
Regarding 70MM, before this shut down, the projection room was being renovated to reel to reel projectors for 35MM and 70MM. The platter system will be removed.
Saw on a local NJ newscast about riots in Minnesota, and a photo of this theatre was on. Lots of broken glass doors and the old boxoffice has a lot of damage.

Permanent Closure. Not on their website.
Well i guess they can afford it now that they got their money. Why would they want a 380 seat triplex??
Airport. Hello Dolly. MAS*H. Patton. Look at those movies. What a line up.

42 years ago today “Grease” opened here in Cinema 1. What a crazy busy summer that was. “Heaven Can Wait” was the Cinema 2 attraction.
I have found they usually leave the videos up. what an incredible site.

walterk, looks like its a goner. Shame to because it looked like a nice theatre.

I agree. Just like the Paris in NYC, leave the seats alone. Its an old theatre and should be left as such.

Its time to demolish the multiplex and put up a 3 screen drive in back on this site. The time has come.
