Another Clearview Cinema located just off Route 23 in Cedar Grove. The Cinema 23 was opened November 21, 1969 with Woody Allen in “Take the Money and Run”. It was one of the first theatres to show “Star Wars” and other movies in 70mm and Dolby Stereo. This theatre was one of the only remaining theatres on Route 23 (besides Kinnelon and Wayne). On July 13, 1990 it expanded to 5-screens.
The Cinema 23 Fiveplex was closed on May 11, 2010. By 2024 it was in use as a wedding shop.

One of the few theatres in the area that showed Tron in 70mm during its theatrical run.
This opened on November 21st, 1969. Grand opening ad in the photo section.
Clearview closed the Cinema 23 on May 11, 2010 at the end of lease. It did outlast the Blockbuster Video Store that was a near neighbor in the same complex by one month.
I took my parents to see Star Wars here in the fall of 1977 as it was no longer playing close to where we lived. Nice theater as I remember.
Guodone, it was playing at the Menlo Park Twin until late Dec 1977.
markp, I’m trying to figure out why we went to Cinema 23. Maybe for the 70mm experience? Did Menlo have 70mm?
Guodone, no Menlo did not. We installed it before Grease but we didnt plat that in 70 MM either.
markp, OK, that was probably the reason why we went to Cinema 23. Thanks-
I believe the address was 95 Pompton Ave, Cedar Grove, NJ 07009. Looks like Park Avenue Bridals went into that space when the Cinema 23 closed.
Expanded to five screens on July 13th, 1990. Ad posted.
