I visited the Rialto again last week. I was able to get inside the theater and take a look around. It’s still being used as a warehouse and has more or less been gutted. The projection window is still visible, as is the giant arch over the stage. My two interior and two exterior shots are visible here.

I took seven pictures and a short video of the marquee in December 2010. The pictures and video are visible here.

The Balmar is located at 1504 Mill Avenue. The city should be changed to Eden, as Draper and two other towns merged to form the new town of Eden in 1967.

I spoke too soon. I was in Greenville over the weekend and this place has been demolished. You can still see it on Bing, for whatever it’s worth.

Here is my picture from December 2010. Despite what the header says, I wouldn’t consider this Art Deco at all.

The theater is at about 720 S. Pleasantburg Drive, right behind the bowling alley. The building is still intact, down to the GCC-esque signage over the door.

It’s listed here. South Pasadena is a separate city from St. Pete, even though it’s only about a square mile or two.

Here is a picture from 1989 when this was a GCC theater. The picture was found in the Florida Legacy Collection.

Here is a picture showing part of the Savoy. They list the picture as being taken in 1912, but the short didn’t come out until 1915.

This one was gone prior to 1995. There’s a bank on the US 1 frontage and another building in the back of the lot. The address for the bank is 1304 South Ridgewood Avenue.

Nick, you’ll have to do a write-up on the 40th Street drive-in someday. One of those ads mentions the fairly obscure Plant City/Dover drive-in, which gives us some sort of time period.

You might be right. This is a picture of the block from sometime in the 40s. The Lake is just next door to the large building on the left side. I believe you can see how the awning rises up a little bit at the far edge. I can’t seem to make out any theater signage, though.

Great write-up, Nick. This was one of the theaters I’d been wondering about. I guess the location plus the nearby Hillsboro really did this one in.

Nick, I think this theater is still standing. The property appraiser states that the complex was built in 1967 and shows no modifications to the main complex except for the construction of various outlots at the edge of the parking lot.
