According to news articles published by Macao Daily News on 25th April,2013, the closed theatre had been leased by a local arts organization for thirty years.The theatre will have extensive restoration and renovation under the supervision of the local arts organization and the Macau SAR Government.
The Garden Theatre was at the corner of Luard road and Hennessy Road in Wanchai on the site of the former Chinese New Year Bazaar.The theatre had a frontage of 170 feet on the side of Luard Road and 110 feet on the side facing Hennessy Road and Johnson Road. The theatre had two entrances from Hennessy Road and Johnson Road. As the Hong Kong Government did not renew the license of the theatre, it had to be closed.
According to an article published by the Chinese language newspaper Ming Pao on 22nd April,2012, the exact opening date of the theatre should be 21st June,1930.
The cinema closed on 1st February, 2012. The premises of the former cinema will be converted into three shops, with the smaller ones on the ground floor, while the two large ones on the second floor.
