I knew it was the early 80’s the first film they played was Brubaker with Robert Redford. I would love to see the newspaper ad if yu cold add it to the photos.
Information aboove need to be updated. The theater closed in 1965. The last film to play there was The Great Race with Tony Curtis. In the late 60’s early 70’s they held boxing matches there. For a short time in 1981 the theater reopened by a local guy Rusty A Miller who also reopened the Benn in West Phila and The Esquie in Northeast Phill;y. Unfortunately the 69th St days were shortly lived due to handicap laws. The womans restroom was upstairs and the mens was down in the basement. Rusty also owned the Waverly in Drexel Hill. Please change info on the closing date.
Great pictures Tinseltoes. Where did you find them? I didn’t realize that theater was so large. The first time I went to NYC in 1975 it was a flea market but I dont; rememebr seeing the two balcony’s
One of the problems is hte New York Times does not show The Master playing at the Ziegfeld in the ad. If the post and news is the same as that explains why the Ziegfeld is getting screwed. The Weinsteins are butt holes anyway especially Harvey.
The big ad in the Sunday times the last two weeks doesn’t show the Ziegfeld as showing this movie. I was wondering why because they were supposed to get it. Someone needs to have to corrected because they will be loosing business.
With 4 major studios signing a deal with Kodak to provide 35 mm films until 2015 I don’t see why it is such an issue for theaters to be in a rush to get digital.
Well ALps Disney Warner Universal and another studio have signed a deal with Kodak to process 35mm films through 2015. This may save some of the smaller theaters like this one.
This theater closed during the short time lived in Jersey City. I regret I didn’t go to the theater before it closed. I do rememebr the last 2 films to play there were flat. I think I would have gone if they had one flat and one in scope.
Some films that were 1.85 and 70MM were shown like scope. An example is Fame in 1981 and The Rose in 1979.I would be curious to hear how they do this film. Mark_L is there a site to go to that tells you if a film is in scope or 1.85?
This is wonderful news. I could not see how they couldn’t have this film at the Ziegfeld. Let’s hope it is 70MM scope not 70MM flat. I hated films that were filmed in 70MM flat like A Star Is Born and Altered States. To me it isn’t true 70MM unless it’s also scope.
Need to upadte status above to closed.
I’ve been there twice when i was in town and it is a beautiful theater and a very well run chain.
Update information for above. The theater is now the home to the Wilton Auction.

I saw one movie there when I lived in Jersey City in 1977 Pete’s Dragon
What a waste to have a 70mm print shown in 1.85. I guess I am glad we don’t have any theaters in Asheville that have 70MM capability.
Thanks Al. The problem is on my I Phone it doesn’t give me that oprion, but I can pull it up on the computer.
Informaton needs to be updated. This drive in never had 3 screens. It was always a single screen theater.
The information up top needs to be updated. The theater was never 3 screens and it’s later years it was operated by The Franks not the Milgrams
Somone else told me that an on my I Phone I dont have anything that says Technical Specs. Where are you finding it. You can e mail me if you want CS.
Lowes and Walgreens sits on the site of this former drive-in theater.
