We walked by this theatre earlier in the week. There is plywood covering the Washington Street entrance and some kind of construction work going on inside.
The map is way off. A more accurate address would be 139 W Washington.
The manager of the next door antique mall said that the theatre’s owner was a retired military vet who essentially runs it as a hobby. He sells books out of there and occasionally will host live musical performances. A current photo has been uploaded.
I met my first wife at the Holiday Ballroom on Halsted in 1966. The same operator also ran the north side Holiday Ballroom in the old Times Theatre on Milwaukee north of Lawrence.

My neighbor Joe was the manager of the UA towards its closing. He told me that in 1973, a long-term run of “The Exorcist” was helping keep the doors open while the other Loop theatres were showing Kung Fu and Blaxploitation films.
The liquor license has been approved with restrictions.

Unless this theatre is being renovated for some kind of performance space, the status should simply be closed.
This theatre was featured on “American Pickers” TV show tonight. They sold the some old film reels and a Beatles film.
I have always been leery of crowdfunding campaigns which benefit for-profit operators.

Status should be demolished. It was torn down in July 2015. An art park is planned for the location.

Theatre is being renovated to open in the fall of 2016. Leather recliner seating has been installed, reducing the seating capacity to 150.
