In 99, when I was at El Capitan, I was seeing a girl who rented the Vogue and helped her in the projection booth, besides having worked there in the late 70s. They did film stuff back then.
This was a fun place. It was out in the middle of nowhere. Because of the TV show, Airwolf, I started college at San Bernardino Valley College with a major in Aeronautics. Later, I went to the big Pacific drive-in, the Baseline. A lot of good times running that projection room.
This was a great job. The view of the mountains and the horse track with all the wide open spaces was mystical. I use to relieve Bob, the regular projectionist, over there.
I just had to walk up a dirt road with four bags of groceries because the snow would not let me drive. I live in the Poconos.
Sunrise, wow. The old man’s palace. I wish Redstone would put one projectors in it instead of it being a projectionist smorgasbord. They have every type of stuff know to man in that booth.
Yeah, the trick is too start out low, but high enough, on the voltage and gradually increase them in time to keep abreast of it going back into SR.
They still have trouble with DTS. I told Bill it is over for DTS but he still like it and I do too, actually.
Well, I am snowed in. Time to make some pasta. Got the extra virgin olive oil, fresh roma tomatoes, garlic, onion, pepperoncino, fresh basil and maybe, maybe, some sausage if I can find the fennel seeds for the sausage. Mama Mia, Now That’s Italian!

Bill is very good. You hired the best. He and I worked in LA at the same time years ago. Him and his assistant always talk about Amboy. Vito, the Amboy booth looks well, except for the creeps damage that broke into it for stealing wire.
The big boy, Marino, is doing very well also. They are great people.
JohnMessick, sorry to take two and a half years to answer you. Absolutely nothing happened to me. He could not sue because I was just an employee there to help with no contract. I just went back to the Chinese and told my LA business agent that the VP can do XXX with his theater. Later, the VP got fired! Now, the VP could have sue his own Orange County union for not having their own men in the booth, but not LA union. Get this, the VP was actually a member of the Orange County union. And I knew this. He could never sue his own union, that FREAK!!!
Unbelieveable. Gee, what is next? Oh, time to set the Chicago theater on fire? Maybe use it as target practice for some new bombs from outer-space? How could they mess with UA?
This makes me sick. Bob Kolkhorst was the chief and installed the booth. I left Kankakee and moved there in 77 to help Bob, a good friend of mine. I was trained and became a projectionist in Springfield in 74. I was there when it open and I wish I could be there to see it close. How sad…
As their past technician, the projectionist here are great. The booth is spotless. The equipment run like brand new. The old man and the others in the booth are great. I never had any weird problems there. The operators just care about the booth like in the old days. Great Place To See A Movie!
This is a very nice, classic theater. As their projection technician, they get the same treatment that is given to Lowes, National Amusement, Regal, UA and anyone else. They get the same treatment as all the mega-chains. If there was a problem, you should have reported it because we would be out to fix it. Yes, they get the same service as the big guns. I like this theater.
You know, I have worked at so many unions from Hollywood to Long Island. So Many. Local 640 has got to be one of the best, period. Mark Escorcia, the projectionist here, is one of the best around. The man is huge but his heart is huge too. If you see Mark, say, “Hi Brother.”

Projecting XXX movies was strange here, considering its noble past. The other projectionist now works for Disney. Go Figure…
