I was there yesterday and the theater has been closed for about 3 years. The young man at King’s Bicycle rental was very nice and walked me in the theater. Since there is no electricity I had to use my flashlight on my I phone. The theater inside is intact and beautiful. They have deco décor and the screen sits on a stage. The seats seem to be in good shape. It would be nice to see this treasure reopen one day. The inside is used for bicycle storage.

Did this drive in have a screen large enough o sow true scope films? The other drive ins in Tamps area didn’t and a film in scope was off the side of the screen in the bushes very frustrating.

This theater was moved to Flat Rock many years ago and operates successfully with a digital projector as the Flat Rock Cinema

Here is a question for anybody out there that went to the Boyd aka SamEric in the 70’s. I remember seeing Gone With The Wind there in Sept 1975 as a special one week 70mm re release. Can someone else confirm this. I am 200% it did play there. I also saw it in 1968 at The Randolph on the big Cinerama screen. Was Man of La Mancha the last film on the Boyd curved screen before it was removed?

The theater still sits boarded up and empty. Wish I had money to do something with it. Asheville could use a good regional or dinner theater.

Chuck 1231 I think the Asheville film festival is in Oct. It was last year. A note this theater has started showing slides, but still use the curtains about 5 minutes before the start of a film and at the end of a film. Very nice compromise.

Looking at the pictures from the paper I hope they are not removing the marquee.

I feel better with Bow Tie doing the bookings.

Ok I am confused. I was just on Bow Tie cinemas web page and they show the Ziegfeld as one of their theaters. I thought it wasn’t part of the Clearview package.

Anything happening with this theater? Why are all the east side theaters shuttering.

Howard. The Paramount Columbus Circle was definately small. I saw The Blue Lagoon there in 70MM and the screen was also not very large. I saw Brubaker at Cinema 3 and it was about the same size as the paramount.

Markinthedark, they were exits under the screen. The Eric McDade Mall was also the same until they quaded it.

It was the Fine Arts. It became a spin off of St Patrick’s cathederal for many years but that closed about 10 years ago

Loved White Tower. Any still open? When my famly lived across from the theater in the 70’s the White Tower was long gone. Across from the theater was an Acme supermaket which eventually moved up into the old Penn Fruit building.

I worked there briefly as manager in 1983, like 1 night and realized I got myself in way over my head. LOL They were showing Return of The Jedi than.
