Here’s a shot of the interior taken Jan 2009. At least they didn’t gut out the interior…. The portholes for the projector are still on the back wall. Taken from the balcony.
There was a string of 6-7 buildings sharing a common walls, like you see in a strip center. The Texas was the 3rd building from the left. All but the first 2 are now gone. Nearly all the roofs were caved in, and they bulldozed the Texas and everything to the right. So one wall still exists.
Yes, the Texas was situated between the buildings, the roof was long, long gone. Guessing from the trees, maybe 25 to 35 years ago or more?
Sad that’s it’s closed for now…. But here are some photos taken during the reconstruction. These were taken soon after the asbestos removal, no restoration work had been done at this point, only removal. Last link should be of the owner and the consultant (on left). Name is Tim or Phil. Something like that. Said he’s opened several theaters around the state.
I saw a painted sign on the corner of this building that said Word Of Truth Church. Not sure if they are currently occupying the building. Did not go up close, but I did take a photo from across the street.
I drove by there on Sunday, July 10th, and it appeared to be open, just not then I got a few pictures of it, can post them if wanted. It is called Raye of course. They were showing War Of The Worlds when I went by.
There used to be so many drive-ins in El Paso when I grew up there in the 60’s. The Fiesta used to be located on Mesa Drive back then, and it eventually moved to it’s current location out on Montana St. And yes, I have been there once…
I was traveling through Gonzales around the last week of April and I spotted the Lynn and decided to take some photos. I looked in the window, and a couple of guys inside motioned me to come inside. I took a good look around, snapped some photos and chatted with one of the guys there about theaters. He mentioned they had to do an extensive amount of asbestos removal, and there were plans for 2 screens inside.
Click on my name below, and get my e-mail address, yours does not show up.
Will get some together. Don’t have a great variety though. If I had gone inside I’d have lots more!
Here’s something you never want to see inside an indoor theatre. Sunshine!

On the 3rd photo, the facade, and everything from the left side wall, all the way down the block is gone. The wall in the 2nd photo is gone…

Went by today, and almost the entire block has been demolished. Happened last Summer. Will post a couple of pics soon.

This old run down Alameda Theatre is no more. Just an empty lot when I drove through town a week ago. The Pioneer is of course still there.

I have several good photos of the outside of the building if anyone is interested. I took these around 05/10/05.
