Steve. A lot of the photos I have put on here, are from those I collected whilst working with ABC-EMI. My late mother had put my collection in safe places around the home and have been doing Time-team methods to find them. Its nice to get thanks for my efforts. As I am fing pictures I am loading onto my hard drive as some are now decaying with age. and the pencil is fading. :o) Like me… I must also thank Ken for doing infomation on Cinemas that I don’t have details of..
The Cinema Le Balzac has shut its doors in protest ??? I do not understand the point in shutting.. Being a retired Theatre – Cinema Owner I found there is no such thing as customer loyalty at the end of the day.. Shuting in protest serves no purpose, other then helping the Big boys..
In Birmingham there was the same problem with the Alexandra Theatre.. The original Bars where an after thought. Satchwell and Roberts where noted for their fine Cinemas.. They Did Art Deco first in 1924…. I Think They could have been the first in UK..
I thought that was odd when reading it.. I joined BT Davis July 1974 at one of his other theatres. Still Ken did do a lot of entries that day….. and Age comes into it.. :o)
I have loaded a pic of earlier Days. I did a 16 Day Relief (Management) in the 1970’s Saturday night The Ballroom was very loud. and had to work later.
To Johncine. Yes the films are right for the Cinema. Yje screen was only 28ft scope… at the time Odeon New Street was the next largest in the City The Capitol Ward End was 48ft scope slightly bigger then New street
Hmm Kalee 12 Projectors with drum shutters Universal sound heads (When first put in would have had sound on disc as well) and I think Kaylee Commadore arcs..

The Company that owned it from its building till it was sold for demolition was “Kings Norton Picturehouse Co., Ltd.,” Not Clifton….
It had a 36' Screen… Westrex Sound and Projection..
This Cinema was built and on the screen in around 8 weeks from the foundations being laid… No messing in those days..
