drivein2001 commented about Ritz Theatre on Jan 21, 2011 at 11:32 pm

I now have a photo up of what The EMPIRE looks like today. (Jan-2011).. Seen here:.. View link … It was located a few buildings down from where the RITZ once sat. Not clear on this but From what I can gather, The RITZ burned in its early life and then rebuilt.. It was demolished around 1971…….

drivein2001 commented about Crest Theater on Jan 21, 2011 at 11:25 pm

After the Crest had closed, this building was used for several things. A Pharmacy (Smiths Pharmacy) occupied the Building for a long while. What it was before closing, I’m not sure…

drivein2001 commented about Bruton Road Drive-In on Jan 21, 2011 at 11:04 pm

THis Drive In was working in late ‘79, early 80’s. Me & My first wife went there around that time frame. In the mid 80’s, the Drive In had closed, I believe, and then a Tornado came thru and destroyed most of the drive in. All being heavily damaged from the Tornado, the Bruton Road Drive In was then demolished… Only the Entrance is left. Nothing else remains.
The Screen Faced Bruton Road. It was originally set to where the back of the Screen faced Bruton Road but was moved in latter years.

The Screen is the only left of this Drive In. The Snack bar collasped a few years back. The Screen is starting to lean just a bit also! With no attention, This Drive In won’t be able to withstand the outside elements much longer. Sad that there’s no one to rebuild & get it going again..

drivein2001 commented about Ridgewood Theater on Jan 21, 2011 at 12:03 am

Update – Went by the Ridgewood Theatre 2 weeks ago. (January 2011).. It sits idle. No action of any kind looks to be going on. Sad. Waste of a Theatre. The Auditorium was so big!!

drivein2001 commented about Sher Den Twin Drive-In on Nov 25, 2010 at 1:27 pm

Went by this area on 11-22-10 and nothing remains from what I can tell except the blacktop (DriveWay) that led up to the ticket booths. Some of it is still there.. There is a school now built on the edge of the property where the Drive In used to sit.
Just to mention.. The Marque for the TWIN CITY Drive In is still standing! Now being used for a Landscaping Company. Nothing else of the Twin City remains from what I can tell..

drivein2001 commented about Downs Drive-In on Nov 16, 2010 at 6:36 pm

What originally opened as the DOWNS Drive In Theatre was later Changed to the CENTURY 4 Drive In. I believe McClendon bought this Drive In & then adding 3 more screens making it a 4 Screen Theatre. I’ve read that he also added an Indoor Theatre on the lot making this a 5 Screen Theatre..
Today, A warehouse type building occupies the land. Nothing of the Drive In remains.
I have a photo of the back of the screen when it was the DOWNS Drive In that was taken from the Grand Prairie High School yearbook from around 1964?
