True and the Klein in Bridgeport also had a role as a try-out venue, though no movies played there.

Dolby. Dobly is what David St. Hubbins' girlfriend in Spinal Tap called it.

FYI, North Grosvenordale is the business center of town where all the factories are located, some closed, some open. I’ve seen this building, it reminds me of Bantam Cinema.

I would like to see pix too. I would go to the New Haven Free Public Library, Tax Assessors Office and the New Haven Historical Society to see if they can help you with pictures. I doubt pix of the piano inside the theater will be in good quality or even exist. Stories help, though. Get it appraised and keep us abreast.

I found more info on this theatre at the Danbury Museum while doing unrelated research.

The theater was at 253 Main Street and was called the “Casassa Vaudeville Theater” which operated from 1908-1914.

Went by this recently on a bicycle trip. There was an event for late July on the marquee. Apparently it’s in use. The doors have no handles on the outside, though. I will post a marquee picture and the mural on the back of the stagehouse.

I was there last week. This building does not exist in this location. Should change to “demolished.”

I was there the other day on a bike trip. It was my last nite in town and I really wanted some interiors. The staff was nice enough to let me roam the place, even though a huge band was about to take the stage, and unaccompanied, no less. I got about 15 minutes of pix everywhere, including orchestra and both balconies. Upstairs is NOT ornate in the balconies at all. Love looking at atmospheric. No crazy ceilings or chandeliers. I’ll post pix sometime soon.

Plans are now fast as this will be demolished. The facade will be saved and it will be rebuilt as the Prospector Theatre; a 3-screen cinema and arts center. http://www.newstimes.com/news/article/Library-theater-plans-move-ahead-3649373.php

If you go inside the bank, they have a select # of pix of the theater’s interiors and exteriors, but none show the ornamentation as we’d like. There are a few Youtube videos of bands playing there, but only with shots of the columns and the proscenium.

Until today. Thanx to the Gothamist, this picture of The Doors shows a shot looking up and amazing detail! A rare shot!
