Mike, the screen and presentation at Master could not hold a candle to National Hills!! I was a kid and I could see that !!!
i saw quite a few there.I remember when it opened it was going to spell Doom for National Hills being in Walking Distance, but we held our own with a great screen and movies. Our Late Shows in the Early to mid 70’s were fantastic ,Masters 4 only ran a handful, a very few late shows. If you a few bucks to blow, get on Augusta Archieves and see all the old Newspaper ads you can spend hours looking at some great stuff like “JAWS” ad which is on the Imperial Theatre site.
Mike, I am pretty sure (not 100 percent) that the screens were added around 1983……….. I can recall it being closed for a while that spring. I know it was expanded by 1986 as my girlfriend in high school worked there that year, it was definitely done by then…….. While I have a special place in my mind for National Hills, Columbia Square, and the Regency Mall 1-3 theaters, I probably saw more movies at Masters than any others.
A dumb ass District Magr ordered it trashed,Got this from the Projectionist. The extra screens I guess were added in the late 80’s early Ninties,I can find that out just give me time. You got in on the tail end of"going to movies as being an event"
Yes Mike I do remember ! I remember the Golf Mural(why they got rid of that is beyond me). I was born in 1970, So I have pretty good memories of all these places. Around what year did they add on to Masters?
So you remember MASTERS 4,Trey.
Thanks Trey,we needed some folks from Augusta to get on.I have written about all i can.
What more can you say about this place? This was “The” theater in Augusta in the 80s. This place would be packed on the weekends. So many movies I saw here, Jaws 3, Wargames, Poltergiest, Several of the Friday the 13th movies, Return of the Living Dead, Several of the John Hughes 80s films such as Breakfast Club, Pretty In Pink. I still frequent this place from time to time. Its funny as I have been to the Evans 12 once, and Regal 5 times in my life, but still hit this one all the time. I remember going to see Beverly Hills Cop 2 here on opening night 1987, and it was packed……….
Looking at hours of newspapers ads and looking at films.I really think for a four plex MASTERS 4 really did not get a lot of Great flicks. Granted I worked in Town at ABC.PLITT and GCC and one might think my judgement cloudy. They played alot of UA product.

Holiday 1976 movies at MASTERS 4 include One of my favorites SILVER STREAK,THE SEVEN PER CENT SOLUTION, THE SHAGGY D.A. and THE PINK PANTHER STRIKES AGAIN.
They were intrested in 1st run. That is why SOUTHGATE and SOUTHSIDE cinemas were not listed above.
I remember once GCC wanted to know how seats were in each Augusta Theatre. Well, I knew all the seats in the Plitt theatres having worked there. Called the WEIS CINEMA CENTRE and they gave me the number of seats. Called MASTERS 4, the manager,Brenda who knew me and i thought wouldn’t say no said “I ain’t telling GCC any such thing!” end of story. WE guessed about 400,400, 125,& 125. I bet i did not miss it by much. I never Liked Georgia Theatres.
MASTERS 4 April 22 1977 now playing THE PINK PANTHER STRIKES AGAIN
BAKERS HAWK
SILVER STREAK
SHAGGY D.A.
Baker’s Hawk was a pick up from COLUMBIA 1 and 2 .They must have put it in the small theatre.
THANKS for changing the name.I will be more careful with my facts.
ANYWAYS WHEN I WAS IN THE BUSINESS this was MASTERS 4 cinemas and we kept them in line being the larger and more impressive ABC THEATRES. They did very little if any promotions now that i think about it.
This need to be changed to MASTERS 7.Somehow i really messed up.ONLY SEVEN SCREENS. STill all movies $2.00 a seat.
