The Glenroyal was destroyed by fire in the early hours today (18 January 2012). The remains are deemed unsafe and are due to be demolished later in the day – Briggate being closed for the duration.

I think you may be right JohnGn – it was referred to as the ABC Ritz, but it closed about the time the circuit was rebranded with the sole ABC name.

That Car Park looks ominously cinema shaped! (swing round the google image to the opposite side of the road).
