I also have a few photos of my own from inside the Loews. Had I know, I’d have taken a lot more and really shot the whole thing.
I am glad I did get a last viewing at the Loews during the Veronica Mars premiere at least.
Wow, that’s sad that they are tearing apart the Loews! That was the one really unique theater left in the whole region as far as I know. And the screen there was not small! It had the largest non-IMAX screen that I know of in the whole Tri-state area region at 65' (which is basically as large as the largest digital IMAX screens in NJ/NYC AFAIK). I was wondering why I couldn’t find any showings there recently. I kinda of wish they had torn up the second largest main screen here instead.

Okay well I don’t want to argue or anything of the sorts. The Loews screen always felt small and oddly curved to me, almost like part of the image was cropped. Hopefully the new Dolby screen will address that.
If you liked it that’s great and I hope you won’t be disappointed by the Dolby replacement.

Hello-
I was at this theater this past weekend but went directly to the IMAX auditorium so I didn’t notice any construction around the Loews auditorium. speaking of which. regular adult movie theater tickets in Manhattan are already too frigging high. so all the new hyped up auditoriums such as Dolby Cinemas and 4DX at the Union Square are just ways to squeeze even more $$$ from the patrons. I’ve experienced both and the extra mark up in $$$ really didn’t make me enjoy the films in question better than if I had seen them in a regular auditorium with A+ projection and sound.
The Loews auditorium screen was 65 feet wide, not a small-ish screen! and if photos were as readily found as you think, I’d have found them already!
Very happy to hear it’s becoming a dolby! I wonder if they’ll keep the balcony.
The dolby would also mean the first recliner seats at Linc Square since the IMAX renovation didn’t bring any.
Personally I agree that the decoration is very nice, but I’d rather have a big premium screen with recliner seats than a small-ish one without stadium seating. But that’s just me.
I wonder if the dolby will be laser.
@HowardBHaas: A lot of premieres happened at the Loews auditorium. (Given that it was the biggest non-IMAX one and had a balcony). So if you find some pictures of those on social media or yelp/googlereviews you should be able to see the interior of the auditorium.
Ugh, being from Philly, I’ve only been 2ce to the “Loews” auditorium, years ago but wonderful decoration, sat in balcony. I can’t quickly find any photos on this page or anywhere on the Internet! anyone take photos of it?
Not sure if anyone brought this up yet, but upon a very recent visit, it looks like the 1st auditorium (named Loews at this theater) is being converted to a Dolby Cinema auditorium. I could see through the tarp somewhat and it looks like the theater portal’s unique decorations have been stripped and I’m not sure they’ll be put back for that particular auditorium. I’d wager that since Dolby Cinema auditoriums are also mostly black to better ensure maximum absorption of ambient light, that the interior decorations have got to go as well… I’m thinking there might be a total rebranding of that screen and AMC’ll just call it their Dolby Cinema screen like their IMAX screen and drop the homage to a past theater. Also wanted to add that my inquiry with staff pointed to a 4 month time frame of completion. It’s interesting and exciting that LS13 is now going to have both the largest IMAX screen in a movie theater in NYC and a Dolby Cinema auditorium as well!
Both theaters are very similar in that AMC owns them. After they renovate 19th street they should renovate orpheum and this theater…

I appreciate people replying to my original post. but it seems the intent was nothing correctly understood. I admitted I saw it at the Orpheum but wondered if people who saw it at the Lincoln Square had the same problem. so why would asking patrons their experience at the Lincoln Square belong on the Orpheum’s page?
Bigjoe59- I do agree with others that this discussion belonged on the Orpheum page, but to reiterate, I am pretty sure it was issues with the showing you had and it’s very easy for the manager to just say the issue is with the movie and not them (and from my experience AMC is definitely not the best at running that theater, I’ve seen issues with their restrooms as well as incorrectly setting the masking to flat on scope films so that the sides of the image were cut off, etc).
Also, did you happen to see Solo in screen 7 (the largest screen downstairs)? I saw Ocean’s 8 there this weekend, and while it didn’t experiment with the darker levels like Solo did which could be a real problem if the calibration is off, it did seem a bit darker than the previews for the movie and there was a shot where it seemed like the audience was clearly supposed to read what a character had written down but I couldn’t make it out as the image was too dark.
Whereas, in addition to the IMAX at Lincoln Square, I saw Solo a second time in the regular DCP at Union Square, and though it naturally lacked some detail compared to IMAX laser projection, I again didn’t have any issues with brightness levels.

Hello- to alpinedownhiller- I thank you for your reply. but I spoke to the manager of the Orpheum after the showing and he said it was the film itself and had nothing to do with their screening/projection of it.
markp, that is great but I just looked up & AMC’s official website says the screening will be digital so consider telling whoever hired you they ought to correct that. I’m assuming the 70mm projectors have stayed there since at least The Hateful Eight, rather than a temp installation but if incorrect, let us know! better to post on that theater’s page though.

HowardBHaas, its going to play at the AMC Garden State 16 for one week June 15-21. I was hired by Warner Bros to do the projection.
Alpinedownhiller, Can you please provide a link or at least the full name of the movie theater & the date that Paramus is getting 2001 70mm print? I am not finding that anywhere on the Internet.

I was stunned they dumped Solo out of the IMAX so quickly here. That is the sort of film that screams IMAX a lot more than Oceans 8. Only two weeks is a bit little. Oh well, they lost my money.
If it was that dark for you then that theater stinks and must have been used a totally worn out bulb, there is no way it was so dark that you couldn’t tell who was who in any auditorium with decent projection. Sure it is dark, foggy, sometimes backlit lighting, but it’s always very easy to see who is who and looks fine.

to Al A. you certainly have a valid point. I asked on this page to see if the problem existed in other theaters. in fact the film was so dark at times I couldn’t see who was talking. in one scene I only knew it was Paul Bettany because he has a very distinct voice.
