The building received landmark status in 2009. A 2008 link is above in the comments. I have not heard of any plans for it’s return to an active theatre. The sales office on Well Street for the project is not open yet, but the website is finally up. The only recent changes were the cutting down of the trees in the parkway behind it and replacing them with utility poles. Also construction fencing and cement barricades on the Clark Street side. The No Parking signs are dated until February. I’ve asked the nearby commercial tenants and all they’ve heard is that electrical work will be first. Here is the website, though it has a VIP sign up and not much info yet.

Interesting. That confirms that the Marion was a different theatre altogether. It should be removed from the previous names, and the two I mentioned above should be added. The Rialto appears to already be closed in the 1939 photo I added.

The marquee has been drastically changed. Other changes as well. Copy from a Facebook post from the the Bingham County Historic Preservation page. Link with before and after photos at bottom.

The gem of Blackfoot’s downtown, the historic Nuart Theater has been on the national registry of historic places since 1978. The art deco building was built in 1930 by Paul Demordaunt, who owned a small Idaho theater chain with his business partner, Hugh Drennen. Since the 1980s the theater has been home to the Blackfoot Community Players. We are sad to report that the privately owned building has been significantly altered. Over the past several months (not including interior changes) the etched glass windows and doors, the stained glass windows on the second floor and now the iconic and beautiful neon sign of the Nuart have been replaced. These changes were approved by the board of the Blackfoot Community Players who received grant money from the city of Blackfoot Urban Renewal Committee appointed by Mayor Loomis. Public opinion has been overwhelmingly negative to these updates. If you have input, we invite you to communicate with the Blackfoot Community Players board and the Blackfoot City Council who oversee the urban renewal committee. Let them know that these moves are out of favor and that the alteration of historic buildings in general and the Nuart theater in particular have an affect on the entire community. http://www.cityofblackfoot.org/council

Current tenant Past Time Antique Emporium has graciously provided the following chronology. It opened as the Hutton Moving Picture Show, a silent film venue. It then became Past Time Theatre, then Star Theatre with the Star Diner next door. It’s final incarnation was as the Rialto Theatre. The antique store is named Past Time as an homage to the previous name. 1939 photo as the Rialto added courtesy of Matt Shaw.

2012 article about Boom-A-Rang Diner’s opening. No mention of the Arcadia, but the wall’s artwork appears to be movie inspired. Local contractor Leroy Markes owns the building leased to Boom-A-Rang, and those surrounding it.
