Scratches already? I ran Phantom Thread in 70MM for 11 weeks and never scratched the print. Why this isn’t in the Regal E Walk or Lincoln Square where me and my team would be running it is beyond me.
Bill Huelbig, as a long time projectionist, Ill be curious to hear your assessment of the print condition. I know if I was running it at the E Walk or Lincoln Square, it would be perfect.
bigjoe59, the reason 2001 is opening at city cinemas and not AMC LS or Regal 42 is because they have in house manager/operators whereas the other two do not, and need myself and my crew hired. As I stated a few weeks ago, if the film is booked by the theatre companies, there is less chance of AMC or Regal getting it. If its booked by the film companies, then those two theatres and myself are usually on the scene. I so wanted to be able to run this, but so far……
bigjoe59, thank you for your comment regarding showing 70MM at the Lincoln Square and Regal E Walk. As you may or may not know, when a 70MM film comes into those venues it is myself and my team that does the projection. I have been in contact with Warner Bros who told me if it gets booked into either venue I will be called. As of now their plan is to only book it thru summers end, but it could go into the fall. I still hold out hope. I’m also keeping tabs on the upcoming reissue of Sound of Music in 70MM. I only want to give the public the best presentation they deserve.
HowardBHass also the Regal E Walk still has the 70MM equipment from the recent releases. I just checked on it a few weeks ago when I finished the Phantom Thread run at Lincoln Square. The equipment at both E Walk and Lincoln Square is owned by Warner Brothers.
Weinstein installed the 70MM equipment for Hateful 8. Warner Bros bought most of it when Dunkirk was coming out last summer. I highly doubt that any of the equipment would be removed from a theatre somewhere to be installed here.
Thank you Mike (saps) and Bill Huelbig for the kind words. I may not find out until late April/early May, but as soon as I know if I’m running it, I’ll be sure to post it. I’m hoping I get it.
Bill Huelbig, so you get a better understanding on how this works these days, if a movie is booked into a theatre by the theatre company like city cinemas village east or 1,2,3, that means they have in house projectionists. If it booked into theatres with studio owned equipment, booked by the studio, into the E walk or Lincoln square, then I and my team of projectionists are called and hired to do the run. CC is noted for scratching their prints and having problems. I just completed an 11 week 372 showing of Phantom Thread at Lincoln Square and my print went back scratch and dirt free. And at a cost of approx. $25,000 a print, the studios love me.
Bill Huelbig, the 70MM equipment is still there in the Kings projection booth. I just wrapped it up 3 weeks ago after the Phantom Thread run. It is all ready for whatever 70MM comes along. Same goes for the equipment at the Regal E Walk Cinema 12. I just checked on that set up 3 weeks ago. All wrapped up just as I left it last August after Dunkirk.
Al Alvarez, when they were filming porn movies in the 70s and 80s they would film two versions. The hard version would show the close up of the private areas, and the sex act, the soft would only show from the waist up on both men and women.
The one in Hillsborough NJ was a single. The twin in Carteret NJ also retained the Jerry Lewis name until it closed in the fall of 84. The one in Union NJ was a single but was eventually twinned.
bigjoe59, the 70MM will be there one more week as of now till the 11th. Its possible it could go to the 14th. The programs are gone. I don’t know if they are getting anymore.
Just a side note. The Phantom Thread booklets are on a table outside the Kings Theatre and next to the door leading to the projection room. If your lucky you might see me as you enter. I always come down to refill my soda.
NYer, I was not there on Saturday. I think the print is ok considering it was blown up from 35MM. I have one of those programs. Nice touch. I’m back in there on Tuesday.

If it gets to the Regal E-Walk or AMC Lincoln Square, then I get to project it.

Well looks like I wont be projecting 2001. Unless it goes to the Regal E Walk or AMC Lincoln Square, I have no chance of running it. Sad.
moviebuff82, when I worked there in the early 90’s this theatre had only mono sound in each theatre.
Mike (saps), it did. And after 372 showings over 11 weeks, the print was still dirt and scratch free.

xbs2034, yes Murder on the Orient Express played 4 weeks at Lincoln Square. I was the projectionist there.
We did the same thing at AMC Lincoln Square during the run of Phantom Thread.

The Phantom Thread in 70MM ended tonight after 11 weeks and 342 showings.

70MM Phantom Thread now booked thru March 8. It may go longer if it wins any academy awards.
70MM Phantom Thread being held over for a 6th week starting Jan 26.
The one in Hillsborough NJ was a single. The twin in Carteret NJ also retained the Jerry Lewis name until it closed in the fall of 84. The one in Union NJ was a single but was eventually twinned.
