Anyone else disappointed that AMC cut back the AMC Classics showcase for this winter to like only a handful of theaters in the entire nation? One theater per state (other than a few large states and even there it’s just a few)? It’s just about to the point of why even bother. What will they get with that like 50-100 people seeing each move per state??
It’s pretty annoying that AMC Rockaway pulled out. And why? I don’t get it. How many people do they get there in on a Wednesday night in the winter? Not that many from what I’ve seen and certainly not more than I saw them get when they ran the classics showcase in past years (and they didn’t even do ANY promotion for them).
Only a single theater in all of NJ gets the lineup for this winter (and it’s a nightmare location for traffic for the showtimes): Big, Princess Bride, Fast Times At Ridgemont High, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Groundhog Day, Sleepless in Seattle.
What the heck is going on with the Rockaway AMC?
Gravity returns to AMC in Rockaway, but in RealD 3D only, according to advance showtimes on Fandango. This is because the IMAX is showing Jack Ryan Shadow Recruit which I don’t care for. I plan on seeing American Hustle this weekend before it leaves the theaters due to its awards buzz.
Happy New Year’s Eve!!! Went to see “Smaug” in Imax 3d. While I enjoyed the movie (huge improvement over “Unexpected Journey”) I thought the action was blurry compared with the high resolution close ups of the characters despite the excellent surround sound (especially when Smuag appears on screen). Pretty weird that AMC started their main previews and trailers with the no cellphones/movie start trailer and then the welcome to amc trailer before the AMC Lone Survivor long preview followed by a few trailers. Kinda annoying when at the end of Smaug the lights brighten up before credits roll. Also some crumbs of popcorn on the row where i sat. That’s what $13 gets you, lol.
Just came back from seeing The Hunger Games: Catching Fire in regular rather than IMAX since it was the earliest show and enjoyed the movie very much. Seems that AMC came out with new policy trailers which are great. Too many previews I agree. The projection and sound were top notch although the bottom of the widescreen was a little cut off, just a minor flaw of the curtain machine. This movie has good word of mouth.
checking out advance showtimes for future movies…no mention of HFR 3D for hobbit 3d or even atmos/etx. What a shame. At least there’s imax.
I wonder if Dolby Atmos will be installed at this theater for the next Hobbit movie….looks like Frozen (advertised as being in Atmos in trailers) will be play ing in real 3d. Last year the Hobbit was released in HFR 3D, Imax 3D, regular 3D, and 2d. I saw the Imax 3D version. This sequel will have “expanded aspect ratio scenes” which sounds great. I’m looking forward to “The Hunger Games 2” in IMAX when the crowds die down.
Which i enjoyed last afternoon. I doubt this movie will win oscar for best picture, but will win technical awards for its use of 3D effects and sound mixing not to mention the cinematography and score. I’m glad that AMC decided to keep this movie for another week or two since Captain Philips is playing at Clifton Commons in imax.
remember no spoilers on ct…i usually sit near the rails above the non stadium seats so i can stretch my legs for a bit. And for the immersive effect.
Same here. How was the picture and sound compared to other imax 3d movies? Tron Legacy was pretty good and so was Star Trek 3D.
I argree with Bill.
Saw it in Imax 3D. That is indeed the only way to see it, and I was never that crazy about 3D. Not since Avatar, anyway. Gravity is an excellent movie all around.
Has anyone seen Gravity in 3D, 2d, or imax 3d? Seems that there are more 3d showtimes and imax 3d than 2d…since most critics say 3d is the way to go. The box office for this movie is doing gangbusters.
I might go see Metallica in Imax 3D this weekend if it’s not sold out…the reviews look good and the trailers are fantastic. How does the imax compare to the chinese?
Saw Riddick in Imax 2d this morning…it was a good movie. The imax version had some scenes in which the screen was filled, especially during big scenes between Riddick and his foes. The surround sound mix was good, and the quality of the picture was decent given the low budget of this one. There was quite a few people at this theater given the steep box office decline from last weekend. The first Pitch Black I really enjoyed and the sequel kinda flopped on a big budget. The third one is doing quite well and will have legs overseas. The next movie I will see is Gravity in Imax 3D. I hear according to AMC’s facebook page that they might install ETX for Gravity 3D.
Don’t forget the omnimax at lsc if you want in your face imax as well as naturemax in amnh for doc only movies. It might be the last film imax theater come 2014.
as well as palisades center.
For a true imax experience go to lincoln square.
Thanks.
Ok
Same here for world war z in 2d in theater 14. Also the amc first look was green hued which was annoying. The sound was good.
Saw White House Down in Theater 6 this weekend…The lights didn’t fully dim until the movie started. Previews were seen at full light brightness (Extremely annoying). Hopefully this was a glitch.
Has anyone seen After Earth in 4k at this theater? If so, how was the picture quality? The only showtime left for tomorrow is 3 pm, which doesn’t bode well for this box office flop. It will find better life on 4k bluray lol. http://www.imdb.com/list/cTLrg_0aolM/?start=1&view=detail&sort=release_date_us:desc&defaults=1
even amc rockaway 16 has a facebook page…http://www.facebook.com/amcrockaway16. As for 4k movies playing, After Earth is playing at this theater. Has anyone seen it in 4k? The reviews for this movie are not good, although one reporter gave it three and a half stars. I’ll probably give this movie a chance if it’s still in theaters before superman flies back into theaters in less than two weeks….
see this is still a hot site……
Just saw star trek into darkness in imax 3d and it was a blast. The 3d conversion was great and the surround sound was amazing.
