I’m not sure, Patsy. John’s pretty busy tonight going to the Golden Globes, and I’m not sure of Kelly.

Come January 23rd, an IMAX theater will open in auditorium #13 and “The Dark Knight” will be its first movie.

Several new movies open at this theater….none of which will do good. January is usually a month when the focus is on award movies. Unlike last year, when there were plenty of good Oscar worthy movies and the occasional blockbuster, there are few to choose from. The thing I’m excited about is the arrival of the IMAX theater in two weeks, unless the date is changed. The closest AMC Imax theaters near me is the one in Lincoln Square, which is true IMAX, and the one in Times Square, the Empire 25, which is digital IMAX, and the one in Palisades Center, which is true IMAX.

You also misspelled BSG. It’s Galactica. BTW, the final few episodes of the remake of the TV series is coming out next week on Sci-Fi.

I know. Google loews wayne in google news archives and there’s articles about fights, brawls, and people tearing down posters of movies in the theater. I had never had any problems going to the movies at this theater in the past, before the security issues increased as attendance shifted towards the newer theatres like Clifton Commons.

The conversion of the AMC here in Rockaway will be different, since it’s a theater outside a mall and requires time and patience. Maybe this weekend they’ll start doing it as January is a quiet month for good movies playing here although there are Oscar-worthy flicks coming out after limited release like Gran Torino and The Wrestler.

I think so, John. While Digital IMAX is not as large as regular IMAX as some people say, the screen size will be larger and taller than a 2k/4k auditorium. Plus the sound will be louder, clearer, and livelier. This theater could lose another big movie if the new Watchmen movie doesn’t come out due to the battle between WB and Fox over who owns the rights. Then the next big movie could be Monsters vs Aliens, which has a 3d trailer coming out during the Super Bowl. After that, Star Trek, then Night at the Museum 2, and Transformers 2.

With three screens becoming one, the AMC Rockaway 16 would become the AMC Rockaway 13, which is one screen more than Parsippany but one screen less than Mansfield, both Clearviews if the IMAX is completed. If they do construction, does that mean part of the theater will be closed? I don’t know for sure; hopefully they get it in before the flood of new movies come out in the IMAX format.

Only 20 days left until the IMAX theater opens…I’ve checked the website and the date’s still there. I’ve been checking the showtimes lately…no movie has not been sold out…must be a slow weekend at the box office without any new movies. Maybe it’s because of the price of admission and too many movies playing.

Probably the Roxy, since it’s close proximity to the celebration; getting from the Hall to the ball dropping would be a nightmare!!!

The next Imax movie that the AMC in Rockaway will play after Dark Knight has its run will be Under the Sea 3D, which opens on February 13th, a date that several AMC Imax theaters will open on.

Just came back from a showing of Benjamin Button in theater #1 (3:05), very crowded…a long line at both the box office and the concession stand but my dad bought tickets at the atm machine. Once we got in, the film started, but there were some minor issues. First was the focus during the previews and at points during the movie. It was blurry, that it was hard to read some of the credits on screen during the trailer for Duplicity and also during Revolutionary Road, that some of the audience yelled, “Focus!!!”. The problem was fixed before the movie started….at least the surround sound worked well and the crowd was well behaved. The movie was weird but decent.

next year will be nearly 10 years since the theater closed. Status should be changed to demolished and the year of closing is the fall of 2000. The last movie that played there that was huge was Charlie’s Angels 1.

very interesting article. BTW, Stanley Warner owned the Ridgewood theater. The person who replaced the relief manager at SW must have overlooked what would become the two Paramus theaters.

The new theater in Paterson will cause attendance to decline at this theater, since it’s location is not too far from Route 80. Unless AMC installs stadium seating and dlp, this theater will last only a few years and become more retail space.
