Here’s another photo of the Majestic, taken around September 1965 (which indicates the theatre was still open then, but would close shortly thereafter):
That’s sad to hear. I hope whoever bought the Hollywood considers refurbishing and reopening it for movies and puts as much pizazz into it as was put into the Rio.
The King Square Cinema on Charlotte Street should be listed as demolished because there’s now a parking lot on the former theatre site beside the buildings that it used to be next door to.
The theatre first opened in 1959 as the Sahara. It became the Westmount in 1965 when Famous Players took it over, then it became a twin theatre (not a triplex) in 1971. The current fourplex opened in 1985 in another part of the mall.
The Plaza opened in 1936 and was renamed as the Odeon in 1963, not in the years listed above. Cineplex closed the theatre in 1987 when the Granville 7 opened, but Famous Players took over the lease and reopened it as the Plaza again in 1988. Two years after FP closed it, the Plaza reopened in 1993 (first under Leonard Schein as an art-house venue, then later under another lease as a second-run house) and continued running on-and-off until it closed for good as a movie theatre in 1997.
After the Strand closed, Fletcher’s Furniture bought the theatre building, renovated and expanded into it. When Fletcher’s relocated around 1996, the building was renovated for retail on the main floor, along with an art studio and gallery on the upper floor in what had been the balcony area of the Strand portion of the building. It was demolished, along with neighboring buildings on Commercial Street, in the fall of 2005 to make way for construction of the Vancouver Island Conference Centre.
This theatre first opened as the Atlas in 1946. I think it actually was renamed the Coronet in about 1965 or 1966 because it was listed as the Coronet at this address in the 1966 Victoria Yellow Pages.

It appears to me that the building at 123 Main housing the Warehouse One store was once a movie theatre.

Auditorium 1 at the Caprice Duncan (which is what it still appears as) is actually 372, not 672.
