A 1982 photo of the Mall Theatre can be seen here. The marquee design resembles that of the Avon Theatre in Hamilton.

Status should read demolished. The current Google street view shows the entire theatre now gone, including the auditorium.

The theatre’s address should be 911 Denman (at the corner of Denman and Barclay), not 911 Barclay. This is where current occupant Blenz Coffee went after the theatre building was renovated.

ScreenClassic commented about Odeon Prince George on Nov 28, 2012 at 12:42 am

As seen in the current Google street view, the address for the Odeon Prince George should actually read 355 Vancouver Street, not 255.

This photo shows how the theatre now looks, back under its original name of the Civic Theatre. The theatre’s new website is also here: Nelson Civic Theatre

An older photo of the Civic, then under Famous Players management, can be seen here.

Here is an early photo of the Pen-Mar Theatre. According to the caption below the photo, the Pen-Mar opened on December 19, 1956.

Theatre status should now read closed. The Pen-Mar closed on October 4, 2012 and was replaced by the new Landmark 7 Penticton.

Here’s another shot of the Dominion, along with the Haida (as the Plaza), taken probably around the early 1950s.

ScreenClassic commented about Northland Theatre on Jun 23, 2011 at 11:03 pm

It appears to me that the building at 123 Main housing the Warehouse One store was once a movie theatre.

ScreenClassic commented about Hollywood Theatre on Jun 23, 2011 at 7:45 pm

That’s sad to hear. I hope whoever bought the Hollywood considers refurbishing and reopening it for movies and puts as much pizazz into it as was put into the Rio.

ScreenClassic commented about King Square Cinema on Jun 20, 2011 at 4:41 am

The King Square Cinema on Charlotte Street should be listed as demolished because there’s now a parking lot on the former theatre site beside the buildings that it used to be next door to.

ScreenClassic commented about Westmount Centre Cinemas on Jun 19, 2011 at 2:20 am

The theatre first opened in 1959 as the Sahara. It became the Westmount in 1965 when Famous Players took it over, then it became a twin theatre (not a triplex) in 1971. The current fourplex opened in 1985 in another part of the mall.

ScreenClassic commented about Venue on Jun 19, 2011 at 1:08 am

The Plaza opened in 1936 and was renamed as the Odeon in 1963, not in the years listed above. Cineplex closed the theatre in 1987 when the Granville 7 opened, but Famous Players took over the lease and reopened it as the Plaza again in 1988. Two years after FP closed it, the Plaza reopened in 1993 (first under Leonard Schein as an art-house venue, then later under another lease as a second-run house) and continued running on-and-off until it closed for good as a movie theatre in 1997.

ScreenClassic commented about Strand Theatre on Jun 19, 2011 at 12:36 am

After the Strand closed, Fletcher’s Furniture bought the theatre building, renovated and expanded into it. When Fletcher’s relocated around 1996, the building was renovated for retail on the main floor, along with an art studio and gallery on the upper floor in what had been the balcony area of the Strand portion of the building. It was demolished, along with neighboring buildings on Commercial Street, in the fall of 2005 to make way for construction of the Vancouver Island Conference Centre.

Auditorium 1 at the Caprice Duncan (which is what it still appears as) is actually 372, not 672.

ScreenClassic commented about Coronet Theatre on Jun 18, 2011 at 10:31 pm

This theatre first opened as the Atlas in 1946. I think it actually was renamed the Coronet in about 1965 or 1966 because it was listed as the Coronet at this address in the 1966 Victoria Yellow Pages.
