Someone should make a seperate page for the Thalia. This theatre was too important to be an afterthought on the Symphony Space page.

RobertR commented about Syosset Triplex on Oct 23, 2004 at 6:09 pm

The confussion started when they closed the older Syosset triplex. Up until then the other theatre was know as Cinema 150. When Cinema 150 was remodeled the older theatre had closed so UA renamed it The Syosset.

This is one of the few Manhattan theatres that I have never been inside of.

UA could have kept both theatres going, they were not that close. I dont know how this looks but Astoria has no repairs or maintainance done to it for years before they closed it.

There was a Coram Theatre that was showing XXX in the early eighties, is this the same one?

Yes, the theatre is open to all. When you pull up to the guards booth and say you are going to the theatre they give you a parking pass.

With all the abandoned buildings and empty lots around there why tear down the Commodore and build there?

Yes the Ridgewood did and also the Madison. I believe they were called trailer curtains.

I like this theatre and attend it quite frequently when I visit friends in Nesconset. I liked the Smithtown Mall alot though, the auditoriums had curtains, which I think all theatres even in a plex should have.

Loews totally gave up on the Smithtown Mall Theatres when they opened this.

Thats so funny because two nights ago I came across the program from this show. This was one of the first live shows after the movie format was dropped. I can give you the dates when I get home.

RobertR commented about RKO Warner Twin Theatre on Oct 20, 2004 at 4:14 am

The Cinerama name was used long after there was no more Cinerama. I think the last marquee and the change to Warner Twin was around 1980. The Cinerama had been a Cineplex Theatre, so they were the ones who got the payoff when the landlord changed the plans.

It was a nice house for an independant. Hey longislandmovies I was curious, besides Roosevelt Field and the Route 110 Drive-In what were the other big money makers for Centurys?

Was Century’s the first operator of this theatre?

I think Night of the Living dead may be in the public domain, so they dont have to pay any film rental. I second the motion for White Christmas, I have never seen it in a theatre.

I drove by here over the weekend and the outside is starting to get shabby looking. City Cinemas needs to redo the outside if they are going to stay competative with the Sunshine Cinemas.

I found it, its an indoor seating area that is open on one side and faces one of the screens. Sunrise Drive-In in Valley Stream had something similar.

The giant X was almost a landmark, a symbol of the crazy 70’s when porn co-existed beside studioe releases.
