Yes this borough needs more screens and the mixed development housing the Hip Hop museum had planned a state of the art multiplex without naming the exhibitor. This theater no longer appears on their website

Went to this nice theater way back when they ran first run films for $1.00. And regardless of their expensive concession, how did they make any money and didn’t the studios object to them charging one dollar ? Recall reading that Disney had objected to General Cinema’s bargain matinee prices.
As of today, a large for rent sign is posted and CVS has not taken over. None of it appears gutted. Maybe if not rented bu the time patrons return in great numbers elsewhere, another chain will move in or maybe even Bow Tie will return.
Did they close permanently? They had upgraded to recliners so am wondering if the closure is temporary even though it dropped from their website. Will ask next time I go to their other theaters.
And an unidentified exhibitor likely withdrew from the downtown Yonkers mixed used project. Expect Bow Tie to also drop it’s multiplex planned for Greenwich, CT after having closed it’s theater next to the railroad station. Damn this virus!!!!!
Regal withdrew from it’s planned theater in Paramus, NJ to have been located on the top level of the vacant Sears on Route 17. I would bet the same for the multiplex above and for their Flushing-Tangram site as well. Doubt we will see any new theaters built for several years thanks to Covid.Another new theater planned for a Bronx mixed use project (bronxpoint.nyc) has been scrapped. The exhibitor was never identified.
Agree with the above comment, but this theater was barely breaking even as per management telling me several years back. This was an excellent theater with well proportioned auditoriums. It was built when expansion of the former nearby Hawthorne multiplex was nixed by town government.
Theater was demolished in November of 1970 as per the book “The Changing Face of White Plains” from their historical society. No sure when it was officialy closed.

Correction to the above: They did not renovate with recliners as was done with White Plains , Cross County and College Point. So am speculating they are not upgrading this theater as they may be the theater chain coming to the nearby Bronx Point mixed use project at the southbound Deegan @ the waterfront next to the 145th Street bridge…
It is possible that the water pipe issue is taking long since maybe the landlord has to pay for it. Regardless, glad that they woke up and are renovating here with recliners. They lost too much patronage to AMC Bay Plaza and Magic Johnson, Harlem. Last time I saw a film here, the screen was way too dark. You seriously have to wonder if the manager or even district manager ever take a peek in their auditoriums…
They are renovating it next month with recliners and they are closed right now due to a water pipe issues…they should have renovated long, long, ago and have finally waken up as they did with Cross County, Yonkers, NY which is slowly gaining popularity with it’s recliners and free parking. Validated parking at Ridge Hill is still $4.00 !!!
They just completed recliner installation at Cross County, Yonkers, NY and the result is excellent by using 5 inch risers every few rows. This was a non stadium seated theater.
MarkNYLA—You are so correct, recliners are very awkward with stadium seating. Unless you sit in the first few rows going upward, everything beyond that makes for awkward viewing since you need to goose neck, leaning forward.
Great sound and the picture was crystal clear, but the image was off frame. Nice auditoriums. Music is much too loud in the outer areas and should be age neutral for what little of the over 40 age group that does go to the movies…felt like a night club as opposed to a movie theater. Food prices were higher than Alamo..
Recliners are coming here next year as per their website. Also coming to their College Point, NY location…could not find that theater listed on this site under both College Point and Whitestone, NY…
Send your complains to the corporate level which will resolve any valid movie goer issues. The manager and assistants cannot be trusted to fix these problems…they are cut from the same cloth as their staff…

Theater is officially closed as per write up on myhometownbronxville.com. They are hoping to repurpose it into possible community reuse.

Reading hearing this was one of GCC’s top money making location. Corrct???

Heard they are building condos on the theater site. Not sure if their lease ended on it’s own or if the landlord bought out their lease…
