Judy Garland and her family played on that stage there back in 1926.

Rosemarie who just passed away played there as a child then known as Baby Rose Marie in the late 20’s.

Just watched Ghost Adventures. The theatre is haunted by the spirits of the two late former owners and interestingly enough the ghost of Douglas Fairbanks Sr.

Little did I know as a six month old baby celebrating his first Christmas that down the street the “new” Lindenhurst Theatre opened. I saw my first movie there a re-showing of the classic “Snow White” in 1953. The rest is history. My last time there was August 1965 and my family moved.

I’m still hoping that RCMH will bring back, even for one week, a weekend, or a day an event that will have a movie and show like the old days. Patrons will of course pay for reserved seats.

I try to attend every Dec.27th RCMH’s birthday. They say Roxy’s ghost appears with a beautiful blonde ghost. So far after ten years trying I haven’t seen it.

There are display cases of memorabilia of the old Ziegfeld in the lobby and going up the stair case. Could these be preserved and displayed at the Lincoln Center Library or some other theatre?

Having watched the live broadcasts from RCMH of America’s Got Talent programs I’ve been aghast and shocked how awful and ugly all that electronic equipment and lighting makes the auditorium look. I prefer the original simple look without all that extra added crap.

Newsday, 7/18/15, page A8. Multiplex to replace theater. Lynbrook’s vintage movie theater will be demolished to make way for a multimillion dollar multiplex. The orbs in the photo above most likely indicate the old theater is haunted.

I remember back in 1959 my mother took my sister and I to see a movie there. In the lobby was a very distinguished white haired gentleman doing a live radio broadcast. When he left the microphone he came over to my mother and started to talk to her. He seemed very flirtatious and my mother look kind of flustered. I later learned he was Ray Heatherton a.k.a The Merry Mailman from tv. He did look familiar to me as a child I watched his program.

GeorgeStrum commented about St. James Theatre on Feb 10, 2014 at 8:16 pm

I am a resident of Saint James N.Y. and a member of the Theatre Historical Society. I became intrigued with the building long known for being a former vaudeville/movie house for the community from the 1910’s to 1950. I learned it was called The Calderone Saint James. I visited it recently and found it to be rented out by a guy who runs his own flea market selling all kinds of junk. It used to be a showroom for an interior decorator named Ruth Weinstein who moved into another store down the street. I was doing research in the Smithtown Library and found that the 1927 microfilm edition of the Messenger had nothing about the theatre. I suppose later editions would or other papers. I plan to give a talk at the library next year about what entertainment was available in Smithtown back in the day to go with the town’s upcoming 300th anniversary.

Having visited this theatre with EMCATOS on 7/02/11 I did find evidence of “orbs” in some of my pictures an indication of some ghostly presence. The Wurlitzer organ sounded manificent.
