What a mess! Went to the Ziegfeld yesteday! Half the seats rock or are loose from the floor, the cushions are flat, and the screen is very dirty and dusty! It needs some serious tender lovin care! Whenever there was a scene in the film when it was a light color at the top all you saw was dust on the screen . Will not go there again! lol there were only 11 people seeing the show.
This was almost the last single screen cinema in Manhattan. It was a nice cozy theater, but Clearview never knew how to book the right pictures there! It reminded me alot of the now also closed Cineplex Odeons Worldwide Cinemas. Same design and color scheme!
Thats right! Home theater is killing the experience of going out to a movie! As far as NYC having older theaters! They are all gone except for the Zigfeld, and the seats in that place will kill you!
This was a great place to see films, Ethel Sue Snickers was one of the old dames that ran the place in the late 70’s, her sister Honeybee sold pop corn! Long live Ethel Sue and Honeybee! A great theater!
“Hawaii” was presented in a spectacular 70mm print and 8 track stereo sound as a Roadshow engagement . It is a visually wnderful movie to see on a big screen along with entrance music and exit music, with a wonderful score by Elmer Bernstein.
Most of the time this theatre looks closed! The marquee seldom works properly and it looks so depressing! Also one of the most uncomfortable places around.
LOL I attended a matinee today of a one week engagement of “Mahogany”. It is supposed to be a new print! I don’t think so! Tinny Sound, black lines running through most of the film, and it ended abrubtly before the credits were finished!
I saw what was advertised as a “new Print” of “Mahogany” at Clearviews Chelsea today. It is playing a week engagement. New Print? I do not think so. The sound was tinny and most of the film had several annoying black lines through it!
This place is a real downer. I have had bad experiences here the last 4 times I went to see a film there. Poor mangaement is the reason. Keep away if possible!

The worst example of movie going is the AMC Newport Mall Cinemas , complete with the old CINEPLEX ODEON signs!

Its so hard to believ that almost 35 years later this place is not yet finished! Great picture!

The Empire needs new seats. The cushions are as flat as pancakes! Forget an IMAX screen and put the money into new cushions!

My mistake it was 6 channel Stereo sound in “Hawaii”’s roadshow release.
I think it was? Anyway the presentation was unbelievable at Boston’s Gary Theatre!

70 mm prints of “Star!” , “Sweet Charity” and “Bye Bye Birdie” would be fun! Also “Hawaii” would be fantastic!

This place has been improved alot! Nicer interior and many new food items added. now if they can get the AC to work properly!
