Was in the restaurant portion today having coffee; and asked about the auditorium portion and if they’d sublease it. The chemical plant owns the building now and as stated above, uses it for storage. The snack bar portion is not original; but the area still has that theatre look. Sept 26, 2017 (btw… Coffee is only $1. there).
I’m currently working to get the state to let me reopen the former DM&E / Milwaukee Road railroad from Rapid City through the Badlands to Kadoka. I’ve restored theatres in the past and also own a production company and I’m looking for an old theatre to hold some fundraising concerts and events at. Does it have an old vaudeville or full size stage. Is it for rent for such? If you know the owner, have him contact me. Thank You!
I will be very realistic about my proposal. Unless the people of Gary get involved with it, or supporting it, the likely of it happening are far less. I have studied Gary in-depth and realize that the city officials do not know what they are doing. You bring jobs back along with the rebuilding; and do not just keep spending money demolishing. Tourism is the right way for Gary to go. Yes, Trump failed in Gary; BUT, he spent $100 Million doing it. Some are upset that he did not keep spending; when the economy was “on a downturn”. It’s now time to bring the tourists “TO GARY”; and to gladly leave their money when they leave. Rebuilding the Palace, Municipal Auditorium and Kilroy Stadium will take time; but, the field of Kilroy could become a concert & event center, while the rebuild takes place. Remember the Jackson’s did one of their “first” performances there; and that is the key to making my company’s proposal work. I and my people are trained in the Walt Disney Imagineering business methods; and it works for Disney; and will work in Gary. With your help, the Palace, Auditorium and Stadium will again be open for your enjoyment; and they will create good paying jobs for Gary residents.
I now have sent your Mayor 2 emails and 2 other city planning employees emails and received NO reply from any of them. I have a rough draft of a proposal almost done; and by next week, will “Mail 10 – 15 copies of it to the Mayor”. I now have the only Michael Jackson tribute artist that is approved by Michael himself (Joby Rogers); who is willing to do some fundraisers in Gary. He has met the other 4 Jackson’s as well and has a pic of him with them. I believe that as a concert promoter, I can get them to also do a reduced fee or no fee concert or more, to help raise money. In my proposal, I’m including the Palace, Gilroy Stadium, the Public School’s Memorial Auditorium remains and the abandoned train station. I used to own a transportation museum, with a Monorail and Heritage Streetcars (and other rail equip); and know that I can get up to an 80% grant, to reinstall streetcar tracks, overhead, power supply and heritage equipment. It all adds up to a number that would shock you; BUT, raising money through entertainment is what I do; and even though the total would be “YIKES”, over 8 – 10 years, it all can happen. I’d turn Gary into a New York City type “Broadway Entertainment District”; which would attract people from all over IN, MI and IL (especially Chicago) to shows in Gary. There is a fact I as a producer know, that will get “Name” entertainers to book in Gary; and bypass booking in Chicago. Anyone interested in helping my company Kirk Entertainment get this approved, email me and I’ll email you a copy of the proposal’s draft. Don Kirk
Would anyone go in with me to discuss lease/option on the theatre from the tribe? From what I read (I’ve owned a theatre in 2007), drive-ins are making a comeback as a historic tourist attraction; and making good profits. Don
I have restored/refurbished/reopened historic theatres in the past; and with proper management, no amount of money is too hard to get. They recently spent $95 MILLION, restoring the King Theatre in NYC. I own Kirk Entertainment and work with a lot of name stars; and much of the funds could be raised having them do concerts as fundraisers (reduced rates or free). I’m inquiring about the Palace Theatre in Gary Indiana and it’s in far worse condition; but, the Jackson 5 grew up there and the place is now very important. I would be willing to work with a preservation effort for the Kenosha Theatre
I was one of the management, that in 2004-2005 refurbished the California Theatre in Dunsmuir, CA. The Palace is in far worse condition, but, I know where to get needed items (like new used seats), that would literally save $1 Mil – $3 Mil, in the restoration. I also know how to get a lot of the work done at a far reduced price. I own Kirk Entertainment, producers of concers and events. I work with both name stars and “world’s best” tribute artists; who I could bring to Gary, to do fundraising events, to help raise the needed funds. I just sent the city an email asking if anything is taking place; and if not, if they’d work with me to allow me to put together a team of interested people, to get the Palace back on the road to reopening. I believe that in 2017, a lot of progress could be made, that would draw the interest of others to help. I’ve also worked in radio & television throughout my life and know how to get the media to run stories that will also help.
If you are interested in helping get the Palace reopened, please send me an email Don Kirk, owner:Kirk Entertainment
Today, Oct 30, 2016, I sent a message to the City of Marysville, asking what can be done. Although I am no longer involved with the Dunsmuir (CA) California Theatre, it is in usable condition today “partly” due to my efforts. There are ways to get around city ordinance requirements. I have been involved in city(s) politics since 1971 and learned a thing or two contractors don’t know in many cities. As for restoration costs, there is a lot of “used” but new condition seats, lighting, sound systems, etc., that can save $$$$$$$$$$$ and $$$$$$#$#$$. I suggested a way for the city to take over ownership if they will just act upon it. I don’t actually want ownership, but to form a local nonprofit to own it; which I can at first be CEO (until restoration is done); then I’ll rent the theatre for producing shows. I have Entertainment & Senior Housing plans for the Hotel as well. We all need to contact the Mayor and push to have the city act.
Unfortunately I tried a number of times to contact the owners of the theatre to no avail. They won’t even reply to the city. I’m hoping the city ends up taking possession of the theatre and allows me or some group to take ownership of it and get it restored and reopened for both movies and live shows. I’d also like to have the Hotel included in the deal. Together they’d make a great entertainment and meeting place; as well as senior housing (especially Vets). My current email is Don Kirk
I have now put a GoFundMe online to raise the money to purchase the Capitol from current owners. When I talked to one a few months ago he stated $200,000.00, but asked what I’d offer. Lets get some decent funds, then recontact him. Thanks!
Kirk Entertainment / Don L. Kirk Productions is in talks with the City of Bridgeport to acquire and restore the Palace, Majestic theatres and Savoy Hotel; as the P.T. Barnum Event Center. Volunteers will be needed for much of the restoration work please contact Don Kirk
I just put a facebook page online to cover our efforts to acquire, restore and reopen the Majestic, Palace Theatres and the Savoy Hotel. While each will maintain their name, if we get them, the entire complex will be named The P.T. Barnum Event Center.
I was just at the Waterbury site and it says 2700 seats. The Bridgeport Palace is 3600 and history records show it was and still is the largest theatre built in CT. BTW… I am a concert & event producer and I have started talks with the City of Bridgeport to acquire the city’s Palace, Majestic (2200 seats) theatres and the 109 room Savoy Hotel; to restore and operate, bringing in name acts and shows. If anyone knows people in Bridgeport that are willing to help with fundraising events (concerts, etc. or grant-writing), please send them my way Don Kirk
Note: Yes both theatres and the hotel are in “BAD” shape and will take extensive work to get restored; although they can be opened before all restoration is done.
The original plan, is to get the wiring and “must be done prior to occupancy” things done, so some concerts can be held in one of the theatres (hopefully the Palace; as it seats 1242 more people). That will give us 1) a non-used theatre to work on 2) allow people to see how much work needs to be done; and why $’s, donated items and volunteer help is desperately needed. We also will work to get the storefronts useable, so that we can open 1) a shelf-pull, damaged and closeout store in one or two of the storefronts. 2) a store that sells donated items. Having these two store types open will help raise funds towards the project. They also will draw attention to the fact we are restoring the theatres and hotel. This will help get items donated, additional volunteers and cash donations. Documenting everything and making still pictures, DVD’s and CD’s to sell as fundraisers also will be done. Right now, I need a list of people that are interested in helping; from getting the city to approve letting us do the project, to fundraising, grant-writing, volunteer work in restoration. Thank You! Don Kirk

The city tells me that both theatres are in pretty “bad” condition (mortar in outer brick walls needs attention. A lot of the plaster is falling down. “ALL” the wiring needs replaced. Because the theatres and hotel are registered as historical landmarks (both outside and inside), a lot of different agencies need to approve any plans for restoration. I fully intend to do what I can to win approval from the city to undertake the restoration; but….. Much of the work will need to be volunteered. A large part of the supplies needed will have to be donated. I will work with locals to form a “Friends” nonprofit that will help with much of that. I really need you to volunteer and get others to do the same, just t get city approval. Don
Does the Mack have a stage? I have restored theatres in the past for combination live-stage and film (and film festivals). I have seen the (outside) Mack many times. When in McMinville, I used to get coffee and rolls at the coffee house that was, or still is on the corner; across the street (U.S. Bank on another corner). If it has a stage and someone has the owners contact information, please forward it to me. Don
On Monday July 27, 2015, I entered what I’m told will be lengthily talks with the City of Bridgeport to either lease or purchase the Palace, Majestic and Savoy Hotel for restoration and operation. I’ve done this before; and I’m a concert promoter/producer of bot big name entertainers and world’s best tribute artists. I will be in Bridgeport mid-October to tour the facilities and would like to meet anyone interested in helping (some paid and some volunteers) restore these grand pieces of Bridgeport history. If interested, please contact me at I live in Far Northern CA; but would move to Bridgeport, if the city and I can come to an agreement. There will also be need of people to help with fundraisers (some will be concerts), festivals and seeking grants. We also will be asking local businesses to donate a substantial amount of the supplies. If enough people reply, I will schedule a meeting someplace, for everyone to attend, while I’m there in October. Again (Don)

I have contacted the city; and they have contacted me about both the Loew’s Majestic and Palice Theatres. I have done theatre restorations in the past; and I also promote & produce big name and top tribute artist entertainers on concert tours.
I am interested in heading up efforts to restore and reopen these two grand theatres, for both live entertainment and film, but need to know that there is enough interest from local residents, to help make that happen. If you are interested, please contact me. Don Thanks.
I have owned and managed former movie theatre’s, as live-stage & film venues. I am a concert producer, working with both name recording acts and world’s top tribute artists. I also produce major fundraisers and festivals. Unfortunately, the current owners (a Mr. Benny and his girlfriend/wife? partner won’t talk to anyone; including city officials. I would like the city to put the theatre into redevelopment plans and emenient domain the theatre and hotel. Yes, adding restaurant and exhibition/meeting space on the hotel’s ground floor would be expected; with upstairs, offices (the theatre offices might need to be used for ADA access, including an elevator, 2nd snack bar, restrooms, etc). The 3rd – 5th floors could become low-income/senior housing, additional offices for nonprofit theatre groups, etc. I also have a simular situation in CT; where another 1700+ seat theatre needs restoring. My new email is ; if anyone wants to help try to get the owners to talk about selling. I’m sure with new owners, working to fix the structure’s problems, the city would drop or at least reduce, or postpone the fines levied on the building.
Been to the Fox many times and hated to see it demolished. Saw Wolfman Jack there (I knew him in later years). My last memory of the place was during demolition, the back wall and roof was down, seats were still in place and the stage curtains were gone. I’m producing concerts now and will in 2015 hold a fundraiser concert for the restoration of the Fullerton Fox.
Brian: If you are still working on the theatre, I was the media manager in 2005, during the brief live-stage reopening. I need to talk with you! Don Kirk
If anyone in the area is interested in raising money to acquire the Capitol, a lot of the restoration costs could be eliminated using volunteers for much of the work; and donated materials. Just buying and replacing the seats alone will cost $1.75 million. This is about ½ the cost Mr. Kwan thinks the total restoration can be done for. I produce concerts and festivals; and with local volunteer help, hold fundraisers that will raise big $’s (I have the best Jimi Hendrix or John Fogerty impersonators; and some 1960’s recording groups working for me). They often will do a show for the large tax write-off they get. If interested, get your friends involved and then contact my production company.
