Georgia Theater Company (GTC) Circuit closed its sub-run discount house, the Masters Cinemas 7, along with its other locations on March 17, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Masters was one of the few discount theaters to reopen in the United States during the pandemic when it opened September 25, 2020. Just five weeks later, the theatre closed November 5, 2020 citing a lack of films. GTC made the closure permanent in an announcement on February 19, 2021 with the lease turned back to the property owner.
might be open for another year, but not much longer…sad thing is,it makes money for second run..
Sad news, it looks like the Augusta NATIONAL has bought the land the shopping center is setting on.MASTERS CINEMAS days are numbered..
The four pplex opened on February 20, 1976
Still going… I’ve been a few times in the last two months; always in the middle of the week and always a decent sized crowd. I hope it hangs in there. Clean auditoriums. Friendly staff. Good concessions.
I got the news from a source in Atlanta. who knows…
I haven’t heard anything about Regal acquiring GTC. Unless they know something the rest of the theatre biz doesn’t know yet.
Breaking ground on the 14 plex, MASTERS 7 days probably numbered, sad, Pity REGAL is running it.
My boyfriend and I went to the Regal the other day and we were talking to guy at the concession stand about the Masters and he said that Regal Entertainment bought out Georgia Theatre Comapany recently and they are in the prcoess of switching their theaters to Regal. He also said that the Masters wont be open much longer because they dont pull in enough money to justify keeping it open…meanwhile the prices at the Evans will be raising to Regal prices…This really saddened us. I hope they do decide to keep this place open. You cant beat a $2.50 movie and they have such yummy popcorn too. It’d be a shame to see it go…
THERE is a MASTERS 4 page some one here locally has put on FACEBOOK..
as soon as the lease runs out its going dark…
GTC announced a 14 screen theatre by I-20…ON River Watch PWK..See what happens here…
Within a year MASTERS will close, ending a long run….Seems like the AUGUSTA NATIONAL GOLF Course needs even more parking and taking that shopping center MASTERS is located in…
yep, probably never will be on that side of town, sadly.
Saw “The Chipmunk Adventure” here in 1988. I remember it because I was – goofy kid that i was – amazed at how many auditoriums there were at the theater…and I also recall how small the one showing the Chipmunks movie was.
Went with the family recently to see a second-run of “Red” a few years ago during the holidays. An awfully long drive for us for a discount theater, but there’s basically nothing left south of Wheeler Rd.
Still running second run, with digital taking over thought she might close…
thanks rivest266,i really enjoying seeing these, as a kid i clipped hundreds of ads from the paper, friday was a great day, wish i would have kept everyone of those ads.
February 20th, 1976 grand opening ad has been posted here.
Sorta wonder if this old theatre will close with everything going,Digital.
Amazing that this $2.00 a seat theatre is clean and has no trouble; Granted it is in the “good part” of town,Drove by the other night, doing good business.
Chuck1231, of all places, on Facebook, i read locals talking about the Gospel Drive-in In Augusta,And i thought i knew every theatre in town, know this sorta off topic, but figured the only way to reach you.
the picture now on today Aug,28 2011 is the MASTERS in Augusta. Before it was remodeled when the extra screens were added the MASTERS 4 was pretty much a very unimpressive looking theatre, white in color i think.box office was moved from the side to front,Still for a dollar theatre it is very clean and no riff-raft hanging around.
The above picture is NOT MASTERS 7 in AUGUSTA……NOTICE the picture above is not MASTERS in AUGUSTA>>>>>>>>
Hey Mike Rogers, you happen to have a picture of that Krystals that sat right in front of Masters Cinema??
Two of the houses were not bad for a quad, the two on the side really weren’t bad when you compared them the two small cinemas at thr Regal 12 here.
