Cinema Treasures Adds 10,000 Photographs!
To say we’re shocked, amazed, or blown away is an understatement. Just over one month after relaunching the site, Cinema Treasures users have added over 10,000 photographs. Thank you all for documenting these theaters and for sharing them with the world. Every photograph added to the site helps future architects, restoration experts, and historians. Plus, they’re also completely addictive.

Just wanted to wish all of our US users a Happy Independence Day! After you’re done grilling meat in the scorching heat, cool off by patronizing your local movie theater. Air conditioning, entertainment, and a cold drink is the right way to celebrate your freedom (from work!).

July 4th Cinema Treasures Photo Challenge!
Since relaunching one month ago, Cinema Treasures users have added over 8,000 photos to the site. We’re absolutely blown away by the response and completely addicted to viewing all of the images coming in every hour.
Despite the breadth and depth of the images on the site, some pivotal theaters are still in need of one or more photographs. If you’re traveling this weekend, we’d love your help in documenting drive-ins, single screens, and megaplexes wherever you are.

For breaking news about movie theater technology, openings, closings, and events, as well as additional information about the exhibition industry, make sure to subscribe to our Twitter feed.
One way to view the feed is throuugh the amazing Flipboard application for the iPad. Just make “http://twitter.com/movie_theaters/” one of your channels and it will automatically add our tweets to your Flipboard and any related images.

New Photo Page!
We’ve redesigned the Photos page to make it easier to find new photos, popular photos, and photos of popular movie theaters like Grauman’s Chinese and the Loew’s Jersey. One notable new feature is the ability to browse through galleries of our most prolific photographers like Ken Roe, Bill Huelbig, and Howard Haas. Enjoy!

How to get the best Google street view
One of the most exciting features of our new website is that we have integrated Google street views directly into our theater pages. So, for the first time, you can really see a movie theater in its real environment, even when we don’t have any photos.
Even better, we’ve added support for customizing and saving the position and orientation of the street view. So, if you come across a street view that isn’t looking directly at a theater, you can virtually move the camera to the correct location and save the view for other users.
The response so far has been amazing. In just two weeks, you guys have already customized over 5,000 street views. Wow!
Since there’s so much interest in this feature, we’ve put together a page with a few tips on how to get the best street view. Definitely worth a read if you’re using this feature.
