Disneyland’s Main Street Cinema (mentioned above) always had the six-screen arrangement, standing room only, with an elevated platform in the center. When it opened in 1955 it was programmed with an extensive collection of silent films, run in a continuous loop from a room above the theater.

The decision to use six Mickey Mouse cartoon shorts on a permanent basis in this silent movie house is problematic, considering that Disney’s claim to fame was that Mickey Mouse was the star of the first “sound” cartoon series.

That this theatre got added to CT is just one more reason why I love this site.

I wish I could find interior photos of the old Fantasyland Theater or pre-remodel Main Street Cinema.

Not to be confused with the current “Disneyland Theatre” (the live open-air stadium next to It’s A Small World that used to be called “Videopolis”), or with the Main Street Cinema (still open, but was converted long ago from a standard single-screen theatre showing vintage movies into six screens around the room showing 1920s Mickey Mouse shorts).
