Art City Drive-In

The Art City Cinemotor Drive-In opened on June 28, 1950 with a capacity of 500 cars. It was operated by V.A. Gilhool. The drive-in remained open until around 2000 when the property was sold for home and retail development. By 2004 it had been demolished.

Today, businesses like Auto Zone and the Utah Community Credit Union occupy the property. However, you can still see some of the ramps on the east side behind the businesses.

The local Daily Herald ran a photo today showing a Track Hoe pushing over the Art City’s screen. The photo was dated 2002.

A more accurate address for this theater is 724 N. Main Street, Springville UT 84663. This points directly to the credit union which sits on where the entrance road was located.

Although the overhead on Google Maps still shows the ramps, the street view shows that houses have been built on the site. There is no trace of the drive-in remaining.

Judging by aerials, it appears that the drive-in lasted into as late as the 1990s, but was demolished completely by 2004.
