This opened on November 26th, 1980. No grand opening ad in the photo section, but an ad was found from the Security National Bank about the cinema, which can be found in the photo section. Newspaper ads started to appear in 1982.
The theatre and it’s parking lot was demolished back in 2009. The business park was already there, constructed back in the 1980s behind the theatre. Tennis courts and soccer fields were put in place of where this theatre and it’s parking lot used to be for Westwood High School and they are still there today.
I drove by last night and it has in fact been demolished, and a business park erected on the site.
I managed this dump back in 1982,worst managing experience of my life. Only theates 1 and 6 had true wide screens. 2,3,4,5 had perfectly square screens with no masking, you could clearly see the tie ropes that pulled the screens taut. Projection equipment was pulled from a dump (literally)most parts were rusty from exposure to the elements. Had a great staff though, miss them all!
update: i drove by the place and it still has power but the school district is using it as a store stuff right now the signs abouve each entrance to the theatres are still up and when i was there were lit up.
