Back in ‘69-'70, I was a student at Boy’s Village, at Smithville, Ohio; the Or was where we went to see movies, mainly horror, but I also saw “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie”, and “They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?” there.
I’m so sorry guys.
The Orr was demolished right before Memorial Day this year (2008).
Orrville must have decided that they needed another CVS instead of their only theatre.
My father — Van Kaufman — was the manager there after WWII. [before he went to Magic City (Barberton) and Montrose (Fairlawn/Akron)] If he weren’t already dead, this would have killed him.
Thanks for the pic, Lost Memory. It’s all we have left!
I use to watch tons of free movies over and over again with my best friend Glenn as he operated the projectors. Got to help bring down popcorn and watch the candy machine get filled. My first girlfriend and date at the time(Sharon)saw the movie and I was so in the cloud I couldn;t tell ya what the movie was. I lived at 522 North Main and many times a month I’d see traffic fill the street where people would park and walk up to see the la
latest run flicks. Many years had past and I lost track of my girlfriend, but sometimes ya just have to go back and see what ya missed on the big screen. I found my girl and even though they torn down or first date location,we tied the knot 30+ years later. i miss the theater but those great memories will never fade away.
Scorpio53 did your neighbor at 521 North Main old Mrs. Murtaugh ever take you to the movies there? She was my great-grandma! Sadly, her house was demolished for a car dealership.
